NPCs

NPCs

First, NPCs - especially villains - should, in general, be from Marvel. When it comes to NPCs, there are a couple of basic questions to ask yourself regarding whether or not they can be used without staff or plot approval.

  1. Will this be a recurring character or plot arc? If the answer is yes, then you should submit for plot approval. You don't need plot approval for the wrecking crew to rob a bank for a pick-up scene, but if you're going to have a series of bank and jewelry store robberies funded by a shadowy cabal that the wrecking crew is working for, there should be a plot proposal.
  2. Consider if this NPC is an Adversary or an Ally. Allies who are more helpful then being quest-givers need more scrutiny than Adversaries who are there to give you a challenge to overcome.
    1. Is the NPC there just to give you a reason to RP? That's okay. (Within reason - Please don't have the Vishanti show up to send you on a quest without running it past staff.)
    2. Is the NPC there to help you in some way? That probably needs approval.
    3. If the NPC is an ally, is the NPC granting your character some advantage? This could be in the technical sense that you'd need a sheet update to your advantages, or in the less formal sense where some NPC is showing up to bolster your position. These things aren't forbidden, but they should follow the rules of sheet upgrade - don't RP it until it's approved.
  3. Consider the power level of the NPC. Phenomenal cosmic powers? Itty bitty leeway without staff approval.

Requests for an NPC don't need to be long or complicated! If you really need it to be the Vishanti who send your group on a quest, just drop a job saying why they're doing it and what the goal is and you should get a quick approval.
