Something Black Widow hasn't done in a while, is go check on the next generation of Avengers in the Young Avengers, seeing how she was already in the Baxter Building for some consultation in Avengers matters, she took the relatively short walk over to the Young Avengers HQ.

"Anybody home…?" She asks as she walks inside, surveying how well kept everything is, seeing if the kids are being neat and orderly, or what one might expect.

*

To be honest, there's not a lot there. Though, well, quite a few boxes are sealed up or appear to be in the final stages of packing. Standing in the main room, packing up a box, is a fairly tall young woman of Native American ancestry.

When she hears the voice, she jumps a little in surprise, then turns and smiles a bit ruefully, "Oh, hey, um… come on in?" She shrugs a bit, gesturing around, "You with the Fantastic Four? I didn't think there'd be anyone coming by today." Whatever this place is, it doesn't look like it's really in operation anymore.

*

"Hello there…" Natasha greets as she spots Dani, moving closer to her, "I'm with the Avengers, they call me Black Widow," she introduces herself, going so far as to extend a hand to Dani, "you're Dani Moonstar with the Young Avengers? Didn't expect a native American, that's cool."

*

Dani chuckles, taking the hand, "Wow, I wasn't sure you guys realized we existed… or well, did exist, I guess." She takes the hand, "Black Widow, I should've guessed from the costume. And hey, no worries, people hear Valkyrie and just think pale blonde woman with braids." Though she does have braids, but that's about it.

She hmms, "So um, what brings you by? I mean, the 'group' is just me and Dazzler right now. Just, well, things happen I guess and the group kinda went their own ways, except for us two. And two people isn't exactly a team."

*

"There are some things that don't exist, that I'm still aware of," Natasha offers with a playful wink. "Yeah, the color is on theme, isn't it? Also very helpful in blending with shadows, or taking on night time ops. Purely functional choice." Hey, Nat does think it looks good, but that part just doesn't matter much. "People always assume, and they usually assume wrong. That's par for the course," as for what brings her here, Nat replies, "just checking on you guys, seeing if you have everything you need and all that jazz."

"Maybe the others weren't cut out for this, it happens, more will come if you persist."

*

Dani hmms, "Maybe… I dunno. I mean, not that I mind sharing a space with just Ali and I, but." She looks at Natasha, "You definitely seem like the lone operator kind of person, how do you handle being part of a team? Especially when you don't really seem to have one, sometimes?"

*

"The most important thing is to remember that whether it's one in the field, or a dozen, it's ultimately the entire organization that makes or breaks a mission. So you're never truly alone, I technically prefer to go solo because there's less chance for someone else to fuck up…but with time, you build trust. I think the most important element of teamwork is trust." Natasha looks intently at Dani, before asking, "what's your skillset? What do you feel most confident doing?"

*

Dani grins, "My skillset? Well, I'm pretty comfortable in a fight, I guess, though a lot of my powers actually revolve around… well, hmm." She pauses, and then says, "My mutant powers, they're actually my main 'thing' I guess. I can communicate with animals, telepathically, and I also can create an illusion based on someone's worst fear. Manifesting that is… not fun, though."

*

"So that's a plus for any encounter," Natasha starts, before narrowing her eyes as Dani remarks about her powers. "Yeah, so about those powers of yours…? Don't ever use them on me…particularly if you get to see it vividly yourself." Funny, but it seems like Nat is keeping more of a distance from Nat now that she knows. "I bet that's pretty debilitating for your opponents, I'm glad you're not on SHIELD's radar."

*

Dani chuckles, "Like I said, I keep those close to the vest. I don't want to be on anyone's radar, and I'm also an Asgardian citizen, technically." She smiles wryly, "Drinking age is lower, is one of the perks. But yeah, it can be pretty scary. I don't use it unless I absolutely have to."

*

"Really…?" Nat seems very interested in that last part, "didn't know about that…so you get to visit Asgard with Thor and all of his crazy folks? How do you fit in with those guys? It's like a testostorone fest over there, isn't it?"

*

Dani grins, "Well, I'm a Valkyrie, and the first recruit they had in forever… from 'Midgard' no less." She chuckles, "Happened about six years ago, and well… I wouldn't change it for anything. Valkyries are definitely not a testosterone fest, I tell you."

*

"I don't think I ever met a Valkyrie, so you'd be the first, but Thor told me about them…so…" Natasha looks dubious as she practically stares at Dani, "is Valhalla real? You been there?"

*

Dani mmms, "It's real. I've been there. I've shown people there." She smiles a little, "Haven't dealt much with Thor or any of the royals. I mean, how often does your average special forces person meet the President? It's kinda like that."

*

"Damn…I'd love to see it for myself, maybe one day, if I'm worthy…" Natasha muses, the concepts of valor in Norse Myth and today diviate quite a bit, so she's not sure what counts anymore. "So you literally serve the role of a chooser of the slain?" Natasha has to wonder, it was very odd to encounter myth in real life, Thor and et al aside.

*

Dani nods, "Yeah, that we do. It's… well, complicated sometimes. And worthiness is a tricky thing to judge, as there's a lot of battles going on." She smiles, a bit wistfully, "It's a beautiful place, though."

*

"How do you judge it, if you don't mind me asking…?" Natasha muses, not everyday you get to ask questions of an honest to goodness Valkyrie out of the legends of old. "Put in a word for me if you get a chance, I'd love to see it, if possible."

*

Dani laughs softly, "Considering you're an Avenger, pretty sure you're on the short list. And well, you just know. Freyja and Odin are pretty on top of that sort of thing. All seeing eye and so forth. Though really, I grew up on legends of Coyote and Thunderbird, so this is a bit new for me."

*

"I do hope so, but you'd be surprised," Natasha muses, not going into detail about how much red she has in her ledger. "So it's like a supernatural sense that you have? You look at someone, and you know they are worthy, even if not exactly why?"

*

Dani nods, "Yeah, I have… well, it's like you can sense death's approach. Some people have it around them constantly, others… well, not so much. A lot depends on who you are and what you do." She smiles faintly, "But yeah, I don't get a lot of background, I just know… whether they are or not. Like Mjolnir when you try and lift it, I guess. It's not like the hammer has a list of everything you've done, it just knows. It's like that."

*

"For the record, I never tried to lift that hammer, not even once. Thor would probably kill me if I tried," Natasha muses, before patting Dani on the shoulder, "well, it was good to meet you, if you ever need any support on anything let me know." She slips her a business card, but that one merely relates to her as a SHIELD Liason and little else.
