Besides the upcoming war between the surface and Atlantis that Mera is doing her best to prevent, there is also the everpresent concern of the 'black goo'. An unidentified substance that seems to infect all living organisms. That infection soon leading to control. Eve has assisted Mera in actions against the goo, most notably in wiping out a contamination in an undersea bunker on a local beach, and she has also introduced the Atlantean to one Poison Ivy.
They had met briefly at Eve's apartment but now it is time to get down to business. Using the Atlantean device she left with them, Mera has 'summoned' Ivy to a meeting in the Destroyed Zone - she couldn't find Eve. The noble woman, not royal alas, is dressed in her green 'armor', standing proudly as she looks over the ruins with some concern.
Ivy stands in her costume, glancing over towards Mera as she's not too far from her personal haven in the Zone. Currently, the Zone is quiet, though there's hints of spring starting to show on the ground. And while the rubble is ever present… it's definitely improving.
Though, Dr. Isley hasn't had much of a chance to look into this with everything else going on. So she looks over at Mera, and says in greeting, "It's a pleasure to see you again, Mera… I'm guessing the news is not good." Since, well, it's been a while and Ivy isn't exactly in tune with Atlantean politics.
"News is news. What we make of it is what makes it good or bad" Mera replies in her flat way. "It is nice to see you again, Miss Ivy" she adds with something approaching, barely, a smile. "What 'news' there is concerning our problem will probably be reacted to unfavorably." That was a long way of saying it was bad news. "The infection has resumed nearby. Would you care to investigate with me?" She looks over Ivy for a moment before deadpanning, "Nice costume."
Ivy blushes a little at the compliment, "Ah… thanks! And yes, we should investigate that." She frowns, "This infection is… persistent, to say the least." She then adds, "And you can call me Pamela, or Pam, your highness." Though she doesn't mind Ivy, either.
Mera lets out a little sigh at the 'highness'. "I am not royalty." An easy mistake to make perhaps, but it would be wrong of her to assume such a mantle. "Lady Mera is adequate if you wish to refer to me formally. Pam it is." A nod of affirmation at the name before she walks down from her vantage point and starts off towards the coast. "You know this area well…Pam?" It is such an odd name.
Pam nods, "I've been trying to restore the Disaster Zone here for some time, it's part of my… penance, I suppose." She chuckles a bit dryly, and looks over at Mera, "Lady Mera then, and you definitely look the part. I'm not sure I could manage just a 'Mera', though… well, I wouldn't mind if you allowed that." She grins a little at Mera, one brow arching, "Or if you prefer Ivy, that's fine, too. I'll answer to either."
"Mera will be fine" the Atlantean allows with a light shrug. "This is your land?" This surprises her. A quick look around at the ruins. "I take it that the restoration is not going well" she deadpans. "Ivy then. You are good friends with Eve?" She doesn't seem to be in a hurry…or perhaps she is looking for something as they walk.
Ivy walks along with Mera, smiling a little, "Mine? Oh no… I mean, I'm taking care of it, trying to restore it…" She coughs, "I have a bit of a, criminal past, you could say. So the government made me a deal. Stay out of prison and help them restore this area. It's slow work, but progress is being made, Mera." She then smiles a bit at the mention of Eve, "Eve is a good friend, though one I don't see as often as I like."
"Why don't you see her? You know where she lives" Mera offers logically before considering something. "This government of yours seems to do this a lot. Make people work for them instead of prison. Do they also pay you, or are you slaves? A woman called Scandal has the same agreement, I believe. I could be wrong." She doesn't really care about surface dwellers as a rule, so her memory of them can be a bit hazy. "You control plants, yes? Have you felt any infection?"
Ivy shakes her head, "I haven't felt anything here in this area, no… but I don't have that extended a connection. I need to be closer to the actual infection area." She nods, "Scandal, I'm familiar with, but I haven't seen her in some time either. The government definitely does keep me busy." She makes a face, then sighs, "Though, well, I do know where she lives, but she's not always there when I stop by…" She trails off, and doesn't exactly elaborate on that.
"Perhaps she is her other dimension?" Mera relies blithly about Eve's absences as they continue to walk. "What is the range of you connection? Do you know for sure? Hmm…I wonder if the infection can feel your connection too? If it is a…vaccine for it? At least until you have moved on…" So many questions and very few answers. "You were a criminal then?"
Ivy nods, "I was. I originally got my powers when someone… decided I would be an unwitting experiment. I was angry and well, I killed him." She shrugs a little, having no regrets about the deed so much as the consequences. "And well, I saw what people were doing to the world, and I raged against them… until I was caught, and imprisoned. Then when the Disaster happened here, I was offered a deal." She sighs, "As far as my connection goes… I can sense a few hundred feet, though I do think the infection reacts to my connection, from what I recall."
"You killed those who deserved it" is Mera's summary of Ivy's life. "It is a harsh justice, but a justice nonetheless. And, like me, you fight against the destruction of our world. Of crushing nature instead of working with it. It seems we have similarities beyond our clothing." Her brief nod suggests she is good with this. They have almost reached the shoreline now. Rubble from fallen buildings forming a new break against the ocean waves. "The fish here are contaminated. The fish eat the plants under the water and infect them. Can you feel that?"
Ivy pauses, then nods, "I do. There's something wrong with the plants… I can't sense the fish directly, but… yes, it's, an unease." She blanches a bit, shaking her head as she tries to keep focused, placing a hand on Mera's arm as she steadies herself a bit.
"I did not think you could sense animals" Mera replies, so she is not too concerned that Ivy cannot feel them. She doesn't mind the hand on her arm - even if it is against protocol. A consoling hand on Ivy's. "Are you alright?" she asks softly. "Perhaps, I should not have led you here to feel this."
Ivy shakes her head, "No, I need to know what's going on, Mera." She smiles over at the other redhead, keeping her hand on Mera's arm. Then she hmms, "It hasn't spread too far yet, from what I can sense, so it seems like the fish are the source this time, not the plants, as you said." Her nose wrinkles a bit, "I think we can excise it here if we act quickly. Though I'm not sure how to quarantine the fish."
"It is too late for the fish. They will have traveled far already. Been eaten by other fish to spread the infection" Mera deadpans. "I will take care of the fish. Eve destroyed the previous infection. How do you suggest cutting out this infection in the plants?"
Ivy hmms, and concentrates, "I can sense where the infection is… so… we can cut it out there." She then gestures, indicating where the infected portions are, "I can't purge it myeslf, but I know where it is. It feels… unclean, yes."
Mera nods. "I will take care of it." Stepping forward to where the infection is, she starts to manipulate the water around it. First, to cause the fish to moves away. Second, to build up a crushing weight to disintegrate the infected plants into nothingness. Though their enemy may be at a virus level size, this will hopefully do the job. "Anything?" she asks Ivy when she is done. "Has it gone?"
Ivy smiles and looks over at Mera, "Wow, that's impressive… and yes, it's gone." She does look a lot better too, as she seems far more… energetic, as apparently sensing the infection was making her a little sluggish.
"It was a small infection" Mera notes. "Though that does not make it any less important to be destroyed. Thank you for your assistance, Ivy. Eve speaks highly of you, and I shall as well."
Ivy nods, "Well, I'm glad I was able to help… if you need my assistance in the future, I'd be happy to aid you again Mera." She tilts her head, her mood improving consderably, as apparently there's a subconscious effect on her mood with infected plants. Or the lack of them, even.
