Blasted Landscape's booth, a rather ornate affair with a background of a vast starscape, with starships of different configurations firing beams of energy and other stuff like torpedoes and missiles. There are four game systems set up so that people can play the games. And, of course, the leaders of the two major armadas, Andara Kielis of the Larai and Joanna Huntress of the Earth Legion. Both are carrying fake sci-fi rifles native to each faction, and look suitably sexy and dangerous at the same time.
However, the people coming to this corner of the gaming floor are somewhat caught up in the two leaders over the game, so various pictures are taken with Teresa and Kori, with pictures of both looking suitably indignant at each other.
Teresa is actually having a little fun. The catchphrases are so over-the-top melodramatic, she can't help it, and saying "Onward to battle!" doesn't seem to get old even after the 50th time.
Koriand'r is slightly distracted. Some her focus has to go to keeping her glow down. It add to a slightly blank face, and an occasional pause before an answer or a scheduled cry of one of her catchphrases like "For the Alliance!" These pauses have been getting shorter and less frequent as the event wears on, though; Koriand'r has mostly managed to relegate the reflex to the back of her mind and is much more natural and open about answering questions. Her poses aren't overtly sexual, aren't worried about making sure her legs look good at this angle or her butt at this one: as a model, she's all personality (and alien physique), letting her default cheer and her corny, lacking in self-awareness enthusiasm carry her performance. This latter disgruntles some of the fans who want her to treat the game and its Byzantine lore as MUCH SRS BZNSS, but no one has the gall to call her out on it to her face, so she carries on with oblivious good cheer.
The crowd thins out rather suddenly, and Teresa looks to Annaliese, who is monitoring the game machines. "Getting scarce out here, underling," she intones imperiously.
"Unlax, Huntress. It's just Wizzard unveiling their new game trailer."
"Like a movie trailer, but for a game. Amazing." She had truly underestimated the sophistication of these games. Maybe she should consider picking up a game console, herself. She looks to Kori, then smiles, "I think we can stop pretending to be enemies for awhile. You certainly have a charismatic personality."
"Thank you, friend Teresa," Koriand'r beams. "I agree, it is better to be friends than enemies. I would prefer to have no enemies. What are your feelings on this topic?" Odd question with a seemingly obvious answer, but Koriand'r asks it like it would be normal for Teresa to say 'Oh sure, I love having people pissed off at me.'
teresa looks thoughtful. "I've never been able to choose my enemies. They tended to choose for themselves. I wish I had no enemies. I could give up heroing and focus on doing this. But I think that we simply have to do the best we can, treat everyone well, and then at least we can say we are not hated for what we did. Except if we stopped someone from destroying a dam or causing a tidal wave. THEN I don't mind being hated for helping people." She smirks. "Sometimes, you may find yourself honored because of the enemies you have,"
Koriand'r nods at this as if she completely understands. "Yes, there is camaraderie in opposition," she agrees. "Do you concern yourself with being honored by others?"
Teresa giggles, a very un-Huntress-like giggle. "Not really. I just want to be able to say that i did the right thing, truthfully, and no one can dispute it. But recognition isn't everything. I think I prefer to judge what I do by how well I sleep at night, if I am untroubled by the choices i've made." She puts the rifle on a nearby table. "And I sleep very well, with only one misgiving. I miss my friends."
Koriand'r nods. "Where are your friends?"
Teresa sits down, feeling the shiny plastic bend slightly. "In another Earth. Another universe. Rose, Marksman, Icicle, Doctor Arcane…I hope they are doing well, wherever they are. And I hope the verdamnt Doctor Destroyer is occupying a nice cell deep in the supermax prison the Vault."
Koriand'r considers this without sitting. Her stamina will carry her through the day, and in the ridiculous heels she's wearing, whose straps climb her calves like ivy. "And you have prevention of return to them?"
Teresa looks thoughtful. "SHIELD is…investigating. But Destroyer's portal was the by-product of a mistake. My chances of making it back are…unrealistic, at best. Besides, I will not sit in a small room and wait for someone to help me. I must take action to support myself, at the very least until someone can find a way to return me to my world."
Koriand'r points her plastic laser rifle at Teresa in case anyone is watching. Someone usually is. "It is good you make the best of your situation," she tells her gunpoint prisoner.
Teresa looks at the rifle, then smirks before lunging for her rifle and points it at Koriand'r. She can't help adding a little extra, though - her eyes sparkle, and suddenly light pulses along the exposed "energy barrel," adding a real light show to the plastic prop.
Koriandr's eyes narrow viciously at the light display. An attack! Treachery! She must mount a defense now! Fortunately, she knows just how to respond!
"Pew pew!" she says triumphantly. That'll teach her prisoner to try to escape.
Teresa blinks, and the lights flicker out immediately. She drops to her knees, the rifle clattering to the floor. "You may have slain me, but the Earth…Legion…will ENDURE FOREVER…" She looks like she will say something more, then her eyes roll upward and she falls forward to land on her side, tousled hair concealing her face.
Koriand'r stands triumphant and turns her back on her fallen foe. It's a shame for her she doesn't know about respawn points.
Teresa hadn't seen all of the game, but she had seen how the characters come back to life.
Suddenly her body seems to flow upward, rising up and up until her feet leave the ground. Her arms are flung wide, her back arched, her head looking skyward and light surrounds her body.
Koriand'r senses the light on her back and turns to face the revivified Teresa. "Hm," she muses. "I am uncertain further battle will solve our difficulties." It's not terribly in character, but who cares anyway?
Teresa lowers to the ground. As the light dies away, she smirks. "Can't keep a good blonde down." She winks to Kori.
"Ohmigod…"
Teresa turns to see Annaliese staring at Teresa. The girl whispers, "Can you…do that AGAIN?"
"If you can, perhaps we could playact in some fashion?" Koriand'r suggests. "I cannot mimic your display, but perhaps approximate small parts of it?"
Teresa looks to Koriand'r and gets a wry look. "What say we do a combat scene. Do they have any melee weapons?"
Annaliese nods. "Yes, there are hypersharp swords we made…"
"Okay. Big fight scene. Rifles stop working, so we go to the swords. then Kori gets the upper hand, delivers the mortal blow, says somehing suitably arrogant, and then I do the 'revive' thing…"
"Respawn," Annaliese corrects.
"And we end on that." She looks to Kori. "How much do you know about fighting with swords?"
Koriand'r lets a wry smile be her answer.
