Robbie is almost always in Brooklyn.
In fact, he had just helped send Gabe to the special-transportation bus for school. "Hey, remember to study for that test! If you don't bring back an A, I won't cook you mac n cheese, you feel?" Gabe laughs and gives Robbie a thumbs up from his wheelchair and the bus drives away.
His hands are put on his hips then for a second as Robbie takes a deep breath. He didn't have work, and his car was parked on the side of the street, but he did sit down on the bench next to it. He seems to be in thought, but also maybe just a -little- bit of people watching.
But its a good day. Who knows who will want to say hello?
Normally people don't walk their horses down the side of the street in Brooklyn. And normally said horses don't have wings…
But let it never be said that Danielle "Dani" Moonstar was ever normal.
Currently, the Cheyenne woman seems to be having a bit of a conversation with her horse, giving him a wry look as she says, "… look, all I'm saying is that maybe we could try the Shake Shack instead of White Castle? Seriously, how do you even manage to eat those things?" The horse responds with an irritated snort, as apparently he clearly has a very specific taste in burgers.
Specific isn't necessarily good, of course…
Robbie looks over at the strange woman with apparently what looks like…wings on its sides? Thats uh..not normal at all. But Robbie goes out on a limb and he gives her a tilt of his head. "Uh..ma'am, I don't mean to alarm you, but your horse has wings."
Yeah, he's gonna be kinda snarky about it too.
"Pretty sure horses arn't supposed to have those. Unless its a very special horse?" Robbie asks her curiously. He didn't have a magical flying horse, but he did have a raging hell machine disguised as a regular dodge charger behind him.
The horse pauses and looks at Robbie with a very much, "No kidding," look on his face. As much as a horse can convey that with a stare, anyway, before snorting pretty derisively.
The woman, however, grins a bit, "Well, sure, horses around here don't. But Brightwind isn't from around here, so it's all right." She chuckles, "Brightwind is, in fact, a very special horse. But between you and me, he won't let you forget it either."
Queue the horse rolling his eyes and looking away from Dani, Brightwind hmphing a bit at the teasing from the two bipeds.
Robbie chuckles a little bit. "Oh do tell. He looks to be nasty-mannered." Oh yes, Robbie is absolutely going to mess with the horse, but then he looks at Dani.
"So I know the horse's name, but not yours. Mind sharing it?" He offers her his hand. "Robbie Reyes."
Up to her if she wants to shake it or something, but he can't really handshake a horse.
Robbie earned another snort at that from Brightwind, as the horse takes a few steps back, apparently sick of the humans for the moment. Dani, meanwhile, does take the offered hand, "Danielle Moonstar, but you can call me Dani." She grins, "Good to meet you Robbie."
Robbie hears that snort from Brightwind, not that he really minds it that much. But the hand is accepted and he gives it a firm shake. "Nice to meet you too, Dani. So uh…whats the story here? I imagine winged horses are really hard to come by."
Dani grins, "On Midga… er, Earth, yes. But Asgard has a different set of rules. I was sent there by a bit of a… mishap, five years ago. But I found Brightwind, or more precisely, he found me, so that helped a lot." She doesn't quite explain everything because, well, that'd take a while.
"Asgard huh? Same place as that Hammer-guy that works with the Avengers? Huh. Maybe I'll see that place someday." Robbie shrugs just a little bit before he looks her in the eyes.
"Guess it begs the question: how'd you do it? Get to Asgard, I mean."
Dani hrms, "Well, you know, your grandfather is casting some sort of ritual and the next thing you know… poof!" She snaps her fingers, making light of it as she shrugs, "I'm not really sure on the how, I just know the what… was really hard to adjust to that at first."
Robbie looks at Dani as she tells him that it had to do with a magic ritual that suddenly teleported her straight to Asgard. "That simple? I thought it was like 'Do something something for Odin-somebody then you might get into Asgard. Or die in a really cool way."
Robbie just rubs the back of his neck, looking at Dani with a guilty little smirk.
Dani hrms, "Well, dying in a really cool way can get you to Valhalla, though definitions of "dying bravely in battle" are a little vague these days." She leaves that to be a mystery, then chuckles, "It can be hard to get into Asgard, but not if you're a powerful shaman, I guess. Though I don't know if that's what he intended… I was a little bit stranded there."
Robbie chuckles as he looks at her. Man, people are probably staring at them all weird or something. Probably because weird winged horse. But he's enjoying his chat with Dani. "Valhalla huh? Does everyone get to go to Valhalla or just Asgardians?" It was a good question!
Dani grins, "Well, it depends. I mean, a lot of people are eligible besides Asgardians, otherwise you wouldn't see Valkyries outside of Asgard really. But it's always up to the person, the one making the journey makes the final decision about it."
Robbie aahhhs a little bit. "So it?s the Valkyrie's decision then? Hope they don't have a sense of favoritism." He laughs a little bit, apparently finding the idea to be very funny. It's like giving the Grim Reaper a free selection on where to send someone's soul. But then he shrugs lightly. "Eh, I'm not that cool. I just burn stuff on occasion." Understatement of bloody epic proportions.
Dani snorts, "No, it's not the Valkyrie's decision. It's the choice of the person dying. What sort of afterlife would it be if you were forced into it?" She makes a bit of a face at that, then tilts her head at Robbie, "Burn stuff? What, you're a fry cook or something?"
"More like demon hunter." Hey, she ousted herself by walkin' around with the horse. Mystic winged battlehorse with an attitude that is probably still rolling its eyes. But Robbie shrugs. "No Asgard in my story, just…you know, Hellfire and brimstone." He shrugs.
Dani blinks a little at that, "Well, okay, that's definitely different. Didn't think there were that many demons around Midgard to hunt." She tilts her head, looking curiously at Robbie, "You don't seem like the kind of person to cut a deal, though." Just in case demon hunter means well, a demon hunter instead of a hunter of demons.
Robbie seems to shrug a little bit as Dani seems to look rather…confused or at least a little surprised. He doesn't seem to mind it. "What? A lady with a flying horse is shocked to find that she's not the only special person in the area?" Robbie seems to be amused, quipping actually to Dani at her words.
But then he seems to take a light breath. "Well…appearances are deceiving. In my defense, you don't look like someone who's been to Asgard. Besides, my deal was for someone else." He shakes his head. "But…well, you don't need to hear my sob story."
Dani nods, "Okay, fair enough. I did break a bit of barriers by being the first Cheyenne Valkyrie, let alone one from Midgard." She grins wryly, "Well, if you ever want to tell me about it, I got plenty of time to listen. When I'm not doing the superhero thing or the Valkyrie thing or the college thing…"
A pause. "Okay, so maybe I don't have that much time, but I do have a bit now and again."
Robbie takes a breath, patting the bench beside him. "Might as well pop a squat then and hear my tale of woe." Robbie says with a soft smile on his face before he turns a bit more serious. If she sits down, he'll begin.
"It all started when I decided it would be a good idea to drag race for some extra cash to try and get out of the neighborhood we were in. It wasn't good. Gangs and the like…wanted to get my little brother out of there."
He shrugs now.
"Lets just say the car I was using had some drugs that was being transported between gangs that I was unaware of. For this last race, I decided to bring Gabe (his brother) because he wanted to come along. Wanted the bonding time and I didn't have the heart to say no." He goes quiet for a second.

Dani takes the offered seat, while Brightwind absently nibbles on the leaves of a nearby tree. She does listen, nodding a bit as she looks over at Robbie, not saying anything for the moment as she just does a good job of listening. It seems like something she does a lot, which isn't too surprising considering what she does.
Robbie continues. "The car gets riddled iwth machine gun fire. I'm shot twice, Gabe is shot through the spine. The car flips, right? I'm thrown from it, but Gabe is still inside. Surprisingly, he's not hurt more from the crash. Gift from God, he called it." Robbie shakes his head.
But they decided to shoot me several more times just to be sure I was dead. And I did die."
But…he's still alive? How does that work.
Turns out my car was also haunted. It made me a deal. Get my vengeance on those who hurt me and my brother. If I wanted a second chance."
Robbie looks at Dani. "The rest is history."
Dani nods, "Heard about deals like that, for real, but never have met someone that took it." She hrms, "Would be interesting to see what's actually in the car, I guess, but that kind of thing isn't my specialty really. But I'm glad you're both… well, okay." Okay is a relative turn, of course…
"Yeah. Well, not everyone gets that happy superhero stuff, right?"
Robbie again with the grim humor. "So, why did you want to hear my story anyway? And I guess you're okay, because you didn't go running for your life or investigating my car for any demonic artifacts."
Dani chuckles at that, "Eh, one of my best friends is a half-demon princess, so I'm kinda used to that sort of thing I guess? Plus, when you lead off with something like that, I gotta hear the story." She smiles a bit, "Glad to see you came out of it… well, mostly okay?"
Robbie chuckles. "I think I know this half-princess. Illyana, right? She's a friend of mine."
IIIIITS a small world aaaafftterrr aaallll.
Robbie doesn;'t seem to mind Dani's answer. She seems a kind young lady. "Who knows? We might see each other again in the near future."
Dani blinks, then laughs, "Well, if you know 'Yana then we probably will. But I should probably get going for now. Take care of yourself Robbie." She grins and stands back up, whistling over at Brightwind, who trots over eagerly enough.
