It was just a regular day at the Institute. Scott, having taken up teaching at the school as the math (specifically geometry) teacher, had just let out class and decided to go clear his head after he had finished grading. Its been a solid week or two since he saw Jean last, and honestly? He misses her.
More than anything, really. They had a few obstacles to leap over to even get to a point where they both decided they were on the same page and wanted to be in a relationship. Best friends, now boyfriend and girlfriend…he just hoped that Jean didn't change her mind. Sure they were both busy, but Scott's always been a little paranoid on that field, perhaps.
He wore his ruby-quartz sunglasses with a gray longsleeve shirt, sleeves rolled up, with blue jeans and some standard tenneshoes. He seems to be looking out towards the lake, leaning against a tree with his arms crossed, sat down and looking comfortable. Was he napping? Nope!
"Careful there, Slim." Jean's voice comes from just behind him as she makes her way over from the manor, hands in her pockets. It's jeans and a t-shirt for her, with a light jacket thrown over it all against the approaching fall chill that creeps in when the sun starts to go down. "The kids see you sitting down they might think you know how to relax."
She grins, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear and nudging him with the toe of one tennis shoe. "Room for one more here?"
Scott looks over at Jean when she speaks, and its like his entire expression just -warms- at the mere sight of here. "Hey Red." A name that Scott has slowly been taking to calling Jean, lately. When she nudges him with her foot, he pats beside him. "Yeah, totally. Come on, pop a squat." When she does sit down, he'll try and be a romantic person and wrap his arm around her shoulders.
"tell me about your day?"
Jean drops down next to him, leaning against his shoulder and looking out toward the lake. "Super very exciting," she lies, smile wry. "Seriously. I think the most interesting part of the day was the early morning shift at the diner. Always interesting when the drunks start to show up for something to steady their stomachs before they finally try to sleep."
She tilts her head back, twisting to look up at him. "How about you? Anything exciting happen here? With classes starting up again, I'm sure you've got the usual array of social problems."
Scott holds Jean close to his side, rubbing his hand into her shoulder affectionately as they look out towards the lake. "Oh, I can tell." Scott answers her sarcastically. "Heh. Did any of them try to spill something on you or fumble around?" Because those are the best drunks. The kind who can't even take a step without basically doing a nasty-looking backflip.
At the question about the school, Scott turns his head to look her in the eyes, his finger perhaps twirling around a strand of her vibrant red hair.
"Oh, its going. New Kids, new mutants, new abilities…so far I haven't had anything happen, but I still have to get used to the hyper-geniuses in the class." he chuckles.
"Could always use a teacher's assistant…" yes, he tries.
"One did try to go into the kitchen when he was looking for the bathroom. That could have gone poorly." Jean's eyes dance with humor as she grins up at him, though she rolls her eyes at the idea of being a teacher's assistant. There's a knuckle in his ribs for that one. "Sweet, but I'll pass. If I didn't want to be a teacher, teacher's assistant isn't going to be better."
"I'm glad things are going smoothly for you, though. Super geniuses aside. I'm sure you'll figure out a way to keep them busy. How about the rest of the team?" She glances back toward the manor, then settles back against him. "Drills going all right?"
-thunk-.
"Ow." Scott says to her teasingly when he takes his hand and rubs his ribcage like she hurt him, but his smile completely deflects any kind of worry from that front. "Hey, I'm just saying that there's only one canditate for a really hot teacher's assistant-" now he's just flattering her, but he grins. "But I understand. I'm just playing, anyway. I know you don't want to be a teacher and thats okay."
Besides, she was still helping out at the school in her own way, namely through the X-Men.
"Team is going good. Been trying to increase the comraderie, having events like grill outs. Something that Rogue and Remy have been more than happy to provide. Drills go fine, as it is." He turns to look down at her, perhaps giving her forehead a kiss if she allows. "Could see you around more, you know."
"I know." Jean tips her head up toward his kiss, letting out a soft sigh. "Sorry. I took some time off when Caden came back to help him get settled back in and make sure everything was good, but that meant I had to make it back up." She pauses. "Had to is maybe a strong phrase," she muses. "Given Hod's generously let me use the apartment it's not like I've got to worry about rent, but. You know."
Her mind drifts to the subject of the team and bonding then. "Maybe we should have a camping weekend soon," she suggests. "Head out to the park, do some hiking, cook over a fire. It could be a good time, right?"
Scott smiles at her acceptance of his affection, even when she tells him about her situation like making sure Caden was nice and handled, not to mention her own living space, which Scott takes the time to speak. "You know you can always just crash with me right? I can just take the couch." It was an offer. SHe already wouldn't have to pay rent and she'd be able to spend more time at the school, and thus, with her fellow X-Men.
"Camping trip? Well…gotta say that sounds like a great time Jean. Would it just be us or would we be inviting some of our fellows to come along with?" Because this will tell Scott if this is a romantic trip or if this is more intended to be like a 'family outing' with their friends.
"I've got some stuff here, and a spare room the professor lets me use. And besides, I think we can both fit in a bed," Jean adds with a wry smile. "It's really more about the commute back to the city. Though it's not like I'm doing anythine important," she admits, wrinkling her nose. "Diner wairess isn't exactly a specialized position."
She wraps her hand around his, brushing her thumb along his as she thinks. "I was thinking a team thing. It'd be a nice way to bond, reconnect. I mean, we could turn it into chaperoning a trip with some of the kids if we needed to."
"We could share a bed whenever you want." Scott flirts with Jean right back with that subtle grin touching his features. His hand is easily wrapped about by her own, no resistance being given as he cuddles with her right there against the tree. It was a good thing nobody was coming along to the lake at this hour, so they wouldn't get reported for PDA or something.
"I gues that'd be fine. Gotta say, some alone time with you is never not a good time, I think." he squeezes her hand, resting his head on hers. "Maybe not a specialized position, but you are really good at it."
"Well I'm sure we could make some alone time happen too," Jean grins. One of the many benefits of dating a telepath: she'll know if anyone's getting close enough to catch them anyhow. "I've missed you too. Is it horrible of me to sometimes wish I could teleport too though? I love you, I love the school. I just…sometimes really hate being so far out here. Feels like we're still hiding. Like when we used to have to worry about registration."
"I have no doubt in my mind that we could." Scott is probably thinking some things that should probably not be done in public, and Jean is skilled enough in her telepathy to pick up on it. But Scott squeezes her hand a little tighter when she professes her love for him and the school.
"I know. But this is a safe place, you know? Nobody comes over here because they all still think its just a high-class private school. Registration is over but the distrust over mutants is still…really fresh. But, want to know whats more important than all that?'
He'll wait for her to say 'what'?
"I love you too." Then he'll lean in to kiss her lips proper, if she allows.
Jean may roll her eyes, but it's a fond gesture, even as she's leaning in to meet his kiss. "You're lucky you're cute," she teases afterwards, turning toward him to lay one arm over his stomach. "Anyhow, you're right. You're always right. I'm just…tired of it is all. I want to see that better world. I want to make it be better. Even though I know that's not the way to do things."
"I think it's time I talk to the professor about the blocks," she says, resting her temple against his shoulder. "If I want to me more, be better, be…ready. Then I'm going to have to stop holding back. And that means learning everything I can do."
What a lip-lock! Its a gentle thing from Scott to Jean, not lustful in a sexual manner, but more romantic and affectionate. "You just say that because you can't see my eyes." Scott says with a smirk, implying that if she saw his eyes and not the sunglasses, he'd be ugly or something. Humor! "I'm only right most of the time. But.." he pauses just for a moment when she speaks about talking to the professor about the mental blocks to hold back her telepathy.
"If thats what you want, I'll support you Jean. But…" he caresses her hair, massaging her scalp. "Just be careful, alright? He puts blocks on people for a reason. You might have to be careful."
"Yeah, the reason was I was ten and I'd just felt my best friend die," Jean points out, dry. "Which, in his defense, is a pretty good reason. I mean, I get it, definitely. It's not like a ten year old needs to be hearing everything people are thinking either. And it made sense to leave them while I was in school, too. But…I can't run away from my powers for my whole life, Scott. Not when they could also be helping people."
Yeah, Scott remembers this particular conversation. He unlocked his own powers whne he saw his parents plane get blown the hell up. But she made a strong point, even as Scott holds her in his arms in such a way that he could look her right in the eyes. "Yeah. Yeah." Scott says somewhat defeatedly. "Then maybe I should go and talk to him with you."
"Yeah?" Jean quirks a brow, smile tugging at one corner of her lips. "That's a nice offer, but you know you don't have to. I'm sure everything will be fine with it. Well. The conversation. I'm not so naive as to think adjusting to the change won't be a little…awkward," she admits. "Might be a good time to take that camping trip, now that I think about it. Give me a little space to get used to things."
"Yeah." Scott confirms to her even as they just look at each other. "Maybe, as long as your not like…reading everyone's minds in the entire school at once. Professor DID say you were a pretty amazing telepath, Jean." He rubs her sides just a little bit. "I do like to camp. Been…years though. I'd have to read the manual on how to do everything again."
He gives her a smirk, before leaning in to kiss her again. "But for right now, I think I just want to be selfish and keep you to myself before I lose you to your studies."
"You know, I'm pretty okay with that plan," Jean laughs softly, tipping her chin up to meet his kiss. She takes her time about it, cupping his chin lightly in one hand. "Mmm," she hums after, sighing contentedly. "I don't think I'm ever going to get tired of being able to do that," she murmurs, making herself comfortable against him once more.
Scott smiles and during the kiss, he actually hums during it, apparently more than happy to stay right here in Jean's arms. "Neither do I, I think." Scott presses his forehead to hers, hands gliding up and down her back. "I might even do it again, juuust to help it settle in." He teases her playfully.
"How about I take you out for dinner tonight?"
"Why, Mr. Summers. So forward." Jean sits up a little bit, twisting so she can face him more fully. "I'd love to go out to dinner with you. What are you thinking?" She looks down at herself, then back to him with a crooked smile. "Nothing too fancy, I hope. I'm not sure I'm feeling the whole getting changed thing."
"I've learned that its a mistake to wait when it comes to loved ones." Scott says with a smile for her. "So, Miss Grey, how about just a nice mom & pop diner just down the way? Or down to Harry's?" He asks her wit ha curious look in his eyes. "I figure either that, or I can take you out dancing. Something where we can just…relax and have fun. Any of that suit your fancy?"
"Harry's sounds great," Jean says, leaning in for one more kiss before she's pushing up and offering a hand down to him. "Come on, handsome. Let's go get something to eat and give the kids something to gossip about."
"Harry's it is." After all, they were both old enough to drink. So when she kisses him again, Scott 'mmm's before he is helped back to his feet, his hand reaching to take her own. "Sounds like a plan to me, beautiful." And sure enough, they probably would be getting the kids gossiping. After all, they were like that hot couple that everyone talked about. They were both just natural leaders.
"Been too long since I had a good whiskey, let me tell you."
