It's a hot afternoon on the Institute campus, so Catseye is taking a nap where she can catch a breeze and enjoy some shade. That means up in the canopy of one of the trees near the driveway, but one of the things she loves best about the Institute is that as long as she is in smoothskin for meals and classes, people don't mind if she uses furform most of the rest of the time. Her lavender fur blends surprisingly well with the shade, her tail dangling lazily over the edge of the branch, twitching from time to time.
Emma has come to the school to check on her ward, she is after all Sharon's legal guardian. A swift search of the grounds and soon she can sense the drowsing cat, and her relative elevation. Amused, she extends her shields to Sharon, which the femme feline might just feel, a sense of warmth encompassing her, armoring her, guarding and protecting her as it always has. Safe.
Watched warily by staff, security systems and even several of the students, Emma makes her way at a dignified pace to where Sharon drowses.
Catseye's ears perk the moment she feels that mental brush, she might still seem to be drowsing, but the ears give her away should anyone be close to enough to see. They swivel, homing in on the sound of familiar footsteps. Then she springs suddenly from the tree, flowing from sleep to leap without pause to land next to Emma. "MotherMotherFrost!" Her tail is up, hooked, and quivering with happiness, a deep purr rumbling in her throat as she rubs against Emma's leg. Lavender cat-hair on white pants…. thank goodness for lint brushes!
"Hello, Sharon." Cat is one of the few people who get the particular smile Emma dons, or perhaps unveils? Feeling indulgent, she settles into a crouch, and wraps her arms about the lioness for a firm hug. "How are you finding things here?" She asks, voice cultured, a hint of Boston accent lingering as she speaks. Sapphire eyes study Cat, looking for signs of health, or the lack there of, assessing and definitely quite familiar with the lavender feline.
Catseye's fur is shining, her eyes are bright, and her purr is strong enough to rattle bones, but she is very careful with her strength as she leans into Emma's hug. Smoothskins are fragile next to furform, and she neverneverever wants to hurt MotherMotherFrost. "Is goodplace. FurryHank promised Catseye Safari in Africa if Catseye gets A in math." Her tail loops in amusement, that really is a sucker bet! "Catseye still not approved for field missions. Don't mind though. And got Driver's License!" Another tail loop of amusement. "FurryHank gave lessons. Scared him a little, yes? Catseye drives like she pounces."
Approval as she sees the glowing good health Cat fairly exudes, and she laughs a little at the bet. "He is far too gullible, good, a safari will be an excellent reward, I approve and will sign the appropriate permission slips if needed." Oh, that's good news. "I know you'll do well, math is one of your best subjects." A wry look. "Of course, that would depend upon your proofs of course." Yes, she's well aware Cat hates the whole showing of work thing, that's just too bad, i tis needed. ESPECIALLY for a girl with difficulty forming sentences, being female and having that speech issue she'll have to do three or four times better than the boys to get half the recognition in Emma's experience. A moment to shift to sitting Indian style, Emma seems unconcerned about the fate of white haute coture, it is trivial compared to her ward. "A license? Well, perhaps we'll go for a drive and you can show me. Though a tad more restraint would be best, after all, you don't need to tease me as you were him."
Catseye curls up around Emma, resting her head against Emma's leg. "FurryHank fun to tease. Made him squeak!" Her whiskers are arched in amusement. "Made mistake of letting Catseye drive on closed track. No traffic, no police! Drive safer on roads, have to watch out for other drivers who not respond as fast, yes? And driving means visiting New York City is easier. Even if have to stay mostly smoothskin." Mostly is such a weasel word! But since more than 50% of her time in NYC is in human form, she figures it counts. "Piotr Rasputin has humankitten. Daughter. Six years old, was born in Limbo. No one explained Limbo to Catseye, but people smelled like it is badplace. LittleElena tried to push in Catseye's head, make sit. Catseye not sit, and scolded but gentle, yes? Six is little, and Catseye is very big to littleElena."
"Probably good for him to realize he's mortal." Emma judges, then dismisses the man from her thoughts. "Do you want for anything, Sharon? Perhaps a car for yourself?" After all, it would make it easier for them to visit! It isn't like Emma is going to live on the grounds, perish the thought, they're not so fond of her to want her to even if she was willing to trade down to live here. Yes, a mansion would be trading down. Of course the security here is better, so that's a selling point. And proximity to Sharon is another. "Have you been practicing your other forms, smoothskin in particular is one you must master, Sharon. People are ignorant and stupid, the more outre your appearance, the harder you'll find it to make your way and I want you to have the very best in all things, to BE the very best you can be." She arches a brow at the news of Piotr's /telepathic/ daughter. "Most intersting, perhaps they'll introduce me, do you like this Elena?" She nods firmly. "Oh yes, better to be gentle."
Catseye headbutts Emma, "Want MothermotherFrost around more." She tilts her head, looking up at Emma out of the corner of her eyes. "Smell better now. Healthier." Catseye was VERY careful never to mention Emma's drinking, even though she did not like the smell. "Smoothskin in class, yes. And visiting city, or helping FurryHank in lab." She nods, "Like littleElena. Has not tried to push after first time. Is very serious for humankitten so small. Met ElenaMotherKeiko. Very fierce and protective of littleElena." Catseye approves of fierce protective mothers! "But ElenaMotherKeiko not allowed on school grounds, so Catseye keeps eye on littleElena."
Emma buries her face in Cat's mane a moment, then scritches, before she sighs. "I wish I could be around more too, but there are many many demands on my time, Sharon. Though my heart feels otherwise, my responsibilities must be honored." Not because she feels any great loyalty in many cases, but one has to make good on one's promises, must honor their commitements and their word - or else they all become worthless, and that simply can't happen. A faint sigh as she senses the intent behind Cat's careful word choice, and she nods. "I was a mess." She admits softly enough even to be faint to Catseye's senses. And then she squeezes for all her strength, not like Emma could possibly do harm to the lioness! "Good, I am very proud of you, Sharon. Never doubt that. I regret the time we lost, but that's past, now we focus on here, and what's to come." A soft laugh at the description of Keiko and Elena. "Is she not one of us this 'Keiko'?"
Catseye is very thoughtful her tail moving in lazy S's, "Think is mutant, yes? Has eyes like cat, smell feline and human. But could be magic, maybeso. Glowing blue wolf with Keiko not smell like wolf, and Keiko talked of making wolf vanish." She looks up at Emma, "Keiko said grew up at a compound. No school, train, work and sleep. Think was Badplace. Keiko not understand school, but wants for daughter."
A moue briefly at the mention of magic. "Well, if the daughter is from Limbo, that certainly tracks." Emma muses, she leans back a little, fingers applied to the jawline of the lioness in lavender fur. "It is a place of dark magic, though I have never been, I have heard of it a bit. The realm is full of demons and demonic entities." She shudders. "Not a good place at all, by all accounts, you have the right of it as a bad place." Interested by the description of the wolf's odd scent, and the description of Keiko's backstory, what little Cat knows and can relate. "There are lot of those too, even in this world."
Catseye nods, "Keiko not know how to read, write. Does know how to hunt, kill demons." She tilts her head, "Not know why not welcome at school but… moves like predator but not one hunting Catseye, yes? Just protective of littleElena as should be. School is not trusting, yes? But does not mean Keiko is bad. Dangerous is not bad. But… hard to make people understand that." She head bumps Emma, and stands, stretching long and slow. "Go up to school, yes? MotherMotherFrost can get reports on Catseye and classes, and Catseye can get shift smoothskin, get clothes. Then food, maybe?"
"Perhaps I should meet her then, and this little Elena. It sounds like she might have much to offer, and if Elena is here…" And therefore near Cat. "…I should like to." Always nice to be sure of people, even little ones. "No, Sharon, it isn't trusting for a reason - humans are not our friends, we cannot take chances, so, here as at the Massachusetts Academy there are strict security measures. They are for our protection." A faint nod. "And theirs, truly." Not that she cares much…if at all, hard to say. When Cat rises, Emma does as well, and nods. "A very good idea." She agrees. Emma takes a moment to caress Cat's brow, and the top of her head, and then walks at a steady pace to the offices to review Cat's records. En route she'll rid herself of the fur, not for lack of love, but — well — okay, yes, she DOES care about her haute couture and lavender clashes!
