There's a noise coming from the kitchen and that's a bit odd because everyone who actually has the Rasputin name isn't here. So there shouldn't be anyone there. In point of fact it appears to be Koa Turner, looking tired and dressed in the high collared WAND official uniform rather than the collared shirt he usually wars. It's got all the accoutrements. Athame. Pouches. Sundry mystical looking doodads.

At the moment he's awkwardly building a cold cut sandwich. Awkward because he's only got one hand to do it and that makes things like opening a mustard jar kind of tricky.

It's early in the afternoon and Keiko knows that Koa had some travel to do related to the case he'd asked for her help on. He might be done with it. Certainly that would explain why he looks so beat. Though in truth he often looks like that so, there's that.

Sam had been upstairs going over some files on the Asgardian case. While he's doing work, he's certainly not dressed for work, as evidenced by the jean shorts, flip-flops and the vintage baby blue Ric Flair t-shirt he's currently sporting. It says WOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

When he hears someone downstairs, he's not particularly wary. When your girlfriend teleports everywhere, you get a little bit used to people just showing up out of nowhere. "Illy, that you?" he calls out. "You better not be eatin' my guacamole, I told you I was savin' that," he calls out, then finds himself looking at Koa Turner making a sandwich in their kitchen.

"Oh. Uh…hello, Agent Turner. I didn't know you were comin' by," he says.

Keiko has been doing fixing about the house. These old places need so much maintenance. She's just coming from the bathroom when she hears the noise in the kitchen. Unsurprisingly, she pulls her collapsable quarterstaff and sets her toolcase down.

"Illyana isn't here, Sam. Neither is Piotr or Mikhail." She says as she follows him into the kitchen. "Oh, Koa. You're back early. Let me do that." She doesn't think twice about bullying the one armed agent out the way and taking over the job of fixing that sandwich.

The agent who is taller and broader than she'll ever be.

"Careful…" Koa says as he's pushed out of the way of the sandwich. Right. Well. He supposes he'll get that eventually.

"Hey Sam. Sorry, I just let myself in. And no I wouldn't dream of taking your guac." He does have the key after all. "I just got back from Holland and I wanted to check in on you all here. Plus I'm kind of starving. Casual day today?"

That's said with mild humor as he moves over to a seat and sits down rather heavily. "But I'm glad you're here. Both of you. I wanted to see how everyone was recovering and, importantly, how Illyana and Piotr are holding up? You guys too, of course, but you're both looking pretty well put together."

Sam Guthrie shakes his head, "It ain't a problem, I'm kinda used to folks comin' and goin' as they please. There are actually fewer people livin' here than anyplace I ever lived before. It's kinda cozy," he says, reaching into the fridge and snagging himself a beer.

"I can't speak for Piotr. Illy seems fine, but that's kinda the way she is. If she's havin' problems, she's hidin' 'em away and pretendin' they ain't real and waitin' for 'em to explode. I'm keepin' an eye on her, but I think she might genuinely be mostly okay. But it ain't like I"m some kind of professional investigator or nothin'," he says.

"Comin' back from Holland, huh? You got the munchies, sir?"

"Piotr was funny last night when I get in." Last night after she'd been working late with Koa. "Implied one of the demons had tried to cause problems. He wouldn't say what but I think for me and him." Keiko has never said much about her time in Limbo or the factions that arrayed against them, so that comment might not make a lot of sense. "Apart from that, he seems fine. As fine as Piotr ever lets anyone see, anyway."

Keiko's method of making sandwiches is rather haphazard. A few pieces of meat, on the bread, some salad and it all put on the plate. "Holland? I didn't think you were going to Holland."

"Heh. No, not like that Sam." Koa chuckles as he takes the sandwich and takes a bite of it. It's more corner store and less deli the way Keiko did it up, but it's still apparently good enough.

"Have a seat, Keiko. If you like. Got any chips? I hate to ask but the inflight meals these days are just wretched. Holland is where the information was. Dank, wet cave. I prefer Egypt. At least their old tombs are drier."

Another bite and then he sets the sandwich down.

"So, I hate to intrude but Sam are you and she…" He trails off and makes a gesture. "… a thing? Like, a serious thing? I already know you and Piotr are, Keiko. I'll be honest, it's Illyana I'm most worried about and you two have been around her a lot more than I have. If she were to snap…" He whistles just to emphasize how bad that might be.

"Do you, either of you, think she's hiding problems? From what I know of her, that seems like something she might do. I mean, I assume there's always something. Limbo and all. But stresses can come from odd places. Like, you know, recently corrupted brothers. And new nieces. Big life changes, y'know?"

Sam Guthrie sips at his beer, "Generally, I don't think there's an official requirement to disclose my relationships, but, uh…yeah, Illy and I have been, uh…" he scratches his head, "together for a little while now. I can't deny she's been keepin' to herself a little bit lately, I ain't seen her as much. But I've been busy, too, so it ain't all on her," he says.

"I don't think she's gonna snap, though, not like in a way that would be…" he trails off. He's concerned at the idea of assessing Illyana as a potential threat. It seems disloyal.

The sandwich is not deli, no but it's edible. Just. Keiko is barely able to smear butter on bread.

Koa's question about Illy has the peruvian focussing on the Agent. "That's not any of your business, Koa." She says quietly. It's a warning.

The agent is pushing her loyalties. Dangerously. Something that not many have realised - just how loyal the small woman is. And Koa's pushing it - her loyalty to him and her loyalty to Illy, and Sam as it turns out.

"You don't have to answer that, Sam." Stubborn woman is stubborn.

Maddeningly so.

Koa puts a hand up. Well, the only hand he has that's any good. "Hey, not like that guys. I want to know if there's more trouble on the horizon. I don't want to see anything happen to her, same as you and there are people in WAND with a LOT more power and a lot less patience than me. The more I know the better I can help you. And hopefully this time it won't…"

He gestures to his arm. The one that he nearly lost resolving the last set of problems.

"So no, it's not an official requirement and this isn't an official question. I'm not writing a report. But I know Limbo, and I know Limbo is ALWAYS trouble. Add that to having a new brother, a newly corrupted brother, a boyfriend, a niece and seven years of someone else ruling her domain to deal with and… well, can you blame me for asking?"

Sam Guthrie considers and takes another long drink of his beer, "I guess not," he says. "Just one o' those things where the lines get blurred and things get messy. Part o' the trouble o' mixin' business and personal, I guess," he says.

"The main thing I can say is that I'll do whatever I can to help Illyana, to keep her safe and to help her deal with whatever side effects come from her…responsibilities in Limbo. I wish she could find a way to cut herself off from it, but we don't always get to choose things in this life."

Keiko's jaw sets as Koa takes that tact. "You don't play fair." She mutters staring at his arm. "It's still none of our business to tell. You want to know? Ask her directly."

If the peruvian knows anything, which she probably doesn't, she's not saying right now.

"And if your 'superiors' have a problem with any of it, remind them what all three of us paid to push the Nightfall from New York. Remind them too, that its something we'd do again and not a blink an eyelid when we did."

"I could but I'm not sure she'd tell me…" Koa murmurs. "Whatever the case she's lucky to have you, Sam. And someone loyal like you, Keiko. I-"

SLAM. That was the sound of the front door flying open, hard. Possibly with the lock or doorframe breaking. It can't be seen from the kitchen though since the door between the kitchen and front room is shut.

"The hell? Sam. Your barrier." Koa says, standing swiftly.

And at exactly that moment, Keiko feels an incredibly, searing pain. Something that strikes to her very soul.

Sam swears. He's very big on the house being a sanctuary and being attacked here, for whatever reason, pisses him off immensely.

He does as he's asked, a soft roar filling the room as he wraps his blast field around the three of them, possibly rattling the cabinets a bit in the process as he braces himself to face whatever it is.

Keiko's raising that quarterstaff a fraction of a second after the doors start slamming. "What's going on…"

She doesn't even realise when Sam brings his blast shield up, she's doubling over … in so much pain. It's like when Koa ate that piece of her soul just … more. So much more.

The brand on her stomach starts to pulse as it tries to push her anger to keep her moving. It doesn't work.

The kitchen door slams open a second later and on the other side is…

… Koa Turner.

He's in his usual collared shirt and slacks but his face is pale and drawn and there is blood soaking the front of his shirt. And the back, not that anyone can see that at the moment. He has his gun drawn and there's a green aura surrounding it.

"Guthrie, lower your shiel- Wait! Ananym, no! Don't!"

Snikt.

Kieko may see but Sam is facing the wrong way. Facing the wrong way to see the Koa they had been talking to turn into a red headed woman with small horns. That small knife at her side becomes a sword. A sword which she raises and shoves at a point right between Sam's shoulder blades.

"It's Witchfire, Koa."

The sword drives through Sam's back, missing his heart by a fraction of an inch but still slamming out through the front of his torso, splinters of rib poking through his skin as she drives it through him. The Kentucky boy lets out a yelp of pain, staggering forward and stumbling down to one knee.

Still, he drops the shield as Koa asks, letting it fall down, for the moment. THe pain is intense, enough that he's already on the verge of blacking out as a puddle of blood spills down onto the tiles below.

"Sam!!!" Keiko manages to rally and touches a tattoo, as she manages to bring her Quarterstaff around, connecting with Witchfire, but weakly and way too late. "Sam, no."

Bella appears a few seconds later, standing over the kneeling man and snarling viciously. The redhead is going to have to go through the wolf and Keiko is starting to rally, her anger driving her. "Koa …" She can feel the pain through their collars.

"Bitchfire, more like. You will not touch him." Another touch to her tattooes, the quarterstaff strikes again, drawing the womans attention to her.

Mirlo appears above the redhead, screeching loudly - echoing the fury that Keiko is feeling.

Witchfire turns smoothly, twisting the blade and pulling it out at an angle to do even more damage. She ducks Mirlo for the moment and brings the blade in an arc downward, impaling Keiko through the chest and pinning her momentarily to the floor before ripping out the blade.

And then Koa mag dumps into her. Green bolts strike her, four finding their mark before she manages to put up a shield.

"Burns doesn't it, demon bitch? This blade was purified by your beloved's soul. So as you die, know that it was he that killed you. And as for you, Sam… you're a decent man. But you're a weakness. And when she learns you're gon-"

Koa reloads - one handed - and his renewed attack makes her cut off and focus on defending herself. "You shouldn't have come back Koa. Now you'll have to watch me tear them apart, one by one."

She is counting Keiko and Sam as down clearly. Is she right? She looks like she might be on her way out.

Sam swallows heavily and even spits up a little blood, indicating that he might've got nicked in the lung along the way, "I may be a lotta things, lady, but weak ain' one of 'em," he says.

This time, when the blast field forms, it's tight, closer to his skin and making him more bullet than cannonball, the charge building rapidly until he fires off from his kneeling position and drives himself hard right into Witchfire, aiming straight for her torso for a short-range but punishing impact.

Of course, even with his blast field, in his condition, the result will be him unconscious and laying on the ground. But maybe he'll take a bit of her with him.

Mirlo screeches and dives again, timing her dives to avoid Koa's blasts. Her talons tangle in the redhair and the bird lifts up, pulling on the hair trying to tear it free of the scalp. It will hurt

Bella steps aside as Sam starts his move, following the young agent with teeth flashing. She'll connect with witch, just after Sam does. Hopefully their combined impact will drive the woman to the ground.

"I'm not going to die…" Keiko grits outs. Oh it hurts, so very badly. When she looks up, her eyes are fully yellow, glowing chitinous scales flowing over her shoulders and covering her - all over. A helm forms over head as glowing leathery wings hang from her shoulders. She looks just like the demon she managed to conquer in Limbo - the one whose spirit now resides in that prometheum lined tattoo.

"I want his sword back, bitch." Despite the soul searing pain, Keiko launches herself after the two as well.

Keiko gets there first as Sam has to charge up. The blade flashes and despite it not having the strength really to penetrate her scales, it does anyway, cutting a searing path from shoulder to opposite rib. The follow up strike, though, is aborted by Sam slamming into Keiko, supported by Bella.

The tackle slams the red headed woman into one of the cabinets and shatters it (and it's contents). Then Sam is dropping heavily, out cold and that gives the woman space.

"Oh but you will, Keiko Rasputina. You will. And so will Sam. I'll cut away everything she has until she's alone in the world, surrounded by the corpses of those she couldn't save."

Light flares behind the woman. A portal. She steps through it before Koa can attack again and is gone.

Koa curses in some ancient language and fumbles at his pocket, dropping to his knees as he does. "Medical emergency. Rasputin residence. Three… three in need of immediate…"

Koa collapses.

Turner? Agent Turner? We're on our way.

Nearly two hours later, Sam and Keiko are in SHIELD medical. Both have had surgery and are in a recovery area. Koa went in some time ago and hasn't come out yet. The only sound at the moment is the steady 'beep beep beep' of the heart monitors attached to both not-quite Rasputins.

Illyana Rasputina sensed a Disturbance in the Force. Where the Force is the lock that holds the Elder Gods from breaking through into reality. But there was nothing to be found at the Heart. Well. Nothing that would explain that pricking of her thumbs. Returning home found a bloody mess. As in, a literal bloody mess.

Interrogating the House Demons (sort of like House Elves but more murderous) managed to get that Sam, Keiko, and Koa were attacked. The blonde doesn't even need to Scry to teleport to Keiko and Koa, she just focuses on the spellwork wrapped around them suddenly there's a stepping disk opening in SHIELD medical and a pissed-off looking blonde in a whole lotta leather steps through.

"Kurita…" Keiko barely manages to growl as she slides to the ground. She hadn't armoured up to stop the blade - she hadn't expected it would. She'd had no control over it - the demon spirit had asserted itself. As Witchfire portals out, the injured murderbug tries to grab her before passing into oblivion.

Not that it helps the pain.

***

Keiko's eyes flutter a little as she starts to come too from the surgery. "Koa. Where's Koa?" It's the first words that come from her lips followed by "Sam? Sam? Elena and Piotr, Mikhail… She can't get them." The small tattooed woman struggles to get out of the bed. "Got to find them …" She manages to get her legs over the edge but finds herself light headed. She pauses just as Illyana comes in.

"Good. Got to find Piotr, Elena, Mikhail. Make sure they're safe."

Why does she hurt so much?

Sam Guthrie is still out like a light. He's heavily bandaged, across his sternum and shoulder. The shoulder he dislocated, his blast field failing at the last point of impact. The sword did the rest of the damage. Severed muscles, deep through and through puncture. One lung deflated 3/4, requiring reparative surgery and reinflation. He had tubes in his nose to help him breathe and an emergency tank nearby in case something went wrong. Morphine was doing its job with him, for now.

"Miss, um, are you supposed to-" That's an orderly approaching Illyana.

"Let her be. Her family is here." An authoritative female voice says. It belongs to a surprisingly short dark skinned woman with a lot of tattoos. Tattoos smaller and less complex than Keiko's.

"Hello Miss Rasputina. I'm Senior Agent Pandora Peters. Miss Kurita, please don't get up. You'll faceplant. Agent Turner has just come out of surgery. He should be along shortly."

Peters takes a few steps in and glances at Sam, then at Illyana. She taps one of her tattoos and waves a hand in Sam's direction.

"Surgit…" She mutters. Latin for 'wake up.' Light pulses from her hand and then over Sam.

"You have questions, I'm sure. We do too but I imagine I have a couple more answers than you do."

Illyana Rasputina's eyes are blazing white, the blue entirely gone from them and her fangs are showing. There's the hint of horns as well, but so far it's just in a 'corner of the eye' sort of manner.

The orderly gets snarled at, and it's a good thing that Peters calls him off as it looks like Illyana was about to beat some of her frustration out of him. And then probably ask some questions. Maybe. "What happened?" The demand, because it's not really a question, is lower, rougher than usual. Her hands are curled into tight fists, nails biting into her palms to try to keep herself under control.

Illyana's burning gaze does flick over to Keiko, torn between needing answers and Keiko's warning. Her hands raise, and portals open, dropping demons into the room. She speaks to them in short, sharp Demonic, the words twisting to even hear and then she teleports them back out. Her gaze fixes on Peters again. "Now."

"I uh … " Keiko's eyes are drawn to Sam and for the first time in possibly forever she lets a strangled cry of distress. "… Witchfire. Stabbed Sam and used Piotrs sword on me." The murderbug falls back to the bed. "Where is Koa…" Peters had said but things might not be processing very well at the moment.

"I want Elena, here, beside me. Keep her safe." Like she could. She failed Sam and Koa, after all.

Illyana's fury doesn't seem to bother her. Not at the moment. She heard the instructions to the demons. Maybe the blonde will bring her daughter here.

Sam awakens at the command of Pandora's power, although his eyes are bloodshot and it's clear he's still a bit disassociated, partly from the medication, partly from the shock. He looks around and then gives a little sigh of relief, "Illy," he says, reaching out to her a bit weakly, "I was afraid she'd gotten…gotten you, too," he says. "Don't be too hard, it was…it all happened real fast."

"Welcome back, Agent Guthrie." Pandora says wryly, watching Sam interact with Illyana. Though Keiko does draw her attention. She's very insistent, this tiny tattoo'd woman.

"If your daughter is anywhere near her father, Keiko, I imagine she's safe enough. But if I am not every much mistaken, Miss Rasputina is going to verify that. Now. As to what happened…"

The look on Pandora's face says she'd really like to know that herself.

"From what I could get out of Agent Turner between surgeries you were attacked by a woman named Ananym Grange, now calling herself Witchfire and wielding magical powers. This seems somewhat strange to me as Ananym is, in theory, seven years old. She is one of the mutant children Agent Turner has been looking for. She seems to have attacked Agent Turner in Holland and used his blood to impersonate him and come after Agent Guthrie and Miss Kurita. And he said something about wielding a sword sanctified by a pure soul. I'm not entirely clear on that…"

So. A little girl come back as a magical young woman, with a magical sword. That apparently is purified enough to seriously hut Keiko.

Does any of this sound vaguely familiar?

There's the sound of something being wheeled down the hallway. "Ah, that must be Turner now."

Illyana Rasputina is torn, and for a change her darker impulses (like taking her frustration out on the SHIELD folks around her) doesn't even make top three of things vying for her attention. She finally steps over towards Sam, taking his hand in hers and squeezing it, though gently. The machines they've got him hooked up to are eyed balefully before she looks over to Keiko. "I sent my critters to warn Piotr and Mikhail and protect Elena." Which they were very excited about, given Illyana told them they could kill anyone that tried to harm her family.

"If she's a sorceress, witch, whatever, I'm not likely going to be able to track her with magic." Illyana says, her tone going gold even as she keeps holding Sam's hand, her thoughts shifting over to strategy. She looks over as Koa is brought in as well, her gaze still white with her fury.

The answer only slightly mollifies Keiko. Elena is out of her reach and she doesn't like it but there's absolutely nothing she can do right now. She can't demand and it's not in her nature to have a tantrum. All Illyana gets is a flicker of yellow in the peruvians eyes as she turns away to look at the bed being wheeled in.

"It was Piotrs sword. She said it had been purified with his soul which is why it could hurt me." She'd already known what she was becoming and this had just proven it. "What's Koa's condition? And Sam…"

Finally her brain catches up with her ears and she stares at Peters. "One of the Thirteen. This is something to do with The Silence."

Sam doesn't have a great deal to offer. "Think it's probably on my chart. I ain't dead. I consider that a win after takin' a sword right through me. Somethin' to write home about at least, once I'm all healed. Tell Mama now and you'll have Guthries all over the house. And it ain't quite safe there yet, I'm guessin'," he says.

"Given we're not sure where your attacker is, no, I should think it's not safe, Agent Guthrie." Pandora says quietly.

Koa has a wrap around his chest and his arm is of course still bandaged. The orderlies wheel him in and withdraw. There's something slightly different about him. On the neck. On his left side. A gleam of silver. One of those sharks teeth is filled in.

After a moment his (still closed) eyes glow slightly and something pushes out from him, sitting up. A ghostly form reminiscent of canines and sharks. His body remains supine.

"Hell that's creepy, Turner." Peters says, shaking her head. "As Sam says, Keiko, he isn't dead. And thankfully he isn't going to be dead either though it was a near thing. As for Koa…"

She glances back.

"I got stabbed in the heart. So I'm okay all things considered." Koa half growls. "And yes. She's managed to hide herself to magical tracking, Illyana. I've been trying to find her for weeks. Though… seven year old her and not twenty something her."

"What I'd like to know is… well, okay, three things." Peters says. "Why did she attack Agent Guthrie and Keiko? Why does she have a purified sword when she's clearly not from that end of the block? And what is the Silence?"

As to why Sam was attacked, Koa looks at Sam and Illyana then coughs and looks away. No. He hadn't put ANY of that in his reports.

"Add to that, why is she so fixated with hurting Illyana?" Beast-Koa mutters and finally pulls himself entirely free of his body.

"I don't even know who this chick is, so why she's gunning for me, I've no idea." Illyana says. Her fangs have gone away but she's still too pissed for her eyes to go back to that chilly blue they usually are.

The blonde doesn't suggest taking them to Limbo, since in their weakened state they'd make delicious targets. And honestly, she'd be concerned about what type of 'infection' might decide to set in. She glances over to Sam. "I know where there are some safehouses." Places the X-Men use. Of course, they'd still need to be able to walk on their own, not trail medical equipment to make sure they don't keel over when someone isn't looking.

"I'll see if I can find someone that's good at tracking in a non-magical sort of way. See if we can run this bitch to ground." Illyana says in a bit of a growl. And no. She's definitely NOT telling Ma Guthrie that her oldest was almost killed because he was associated with yours truly. Nope nope nope. Some trouble, even a demon queen doesn't want.

Keiko frowns when she see's Koa and frowns again when astrals from his body. "You shouldn't do that. It makes things worse…" she mutters before focussing on Sam for the moment. What must it be like to have family that you know and spent time with as you grew up.

"Did Witchfire stab you?" That's to Koa again. Keiko didn't think the redhead had got anywhere near Koa. But he had been in Holland and when he arrived at the house, he didn't look good. "Mirlo might have got some of her hair and Cullen should be able to find her …he can find anything."

If anything, Keiko wants to go right now and start hunting. Well she will until she sits up again.

As to Peters questions, the murderbug gives a flat look. "We are family. Elena is Illyana's niece, I am … connected to her." That's the best Pandora is going to get unless Illyana gives her more. "We don't know *what* The Silence is but it's something the Nightfall was trying to bring down here, a hundred or so years ago. It's part of what Koa and me found recently."

Sam Guthrie nods to Illyana, "Some, yeah. SHIELD's got some, X-men have some," he agrees. "Ain't sure either of 'em is much equipped to deal with magic stuff. I'd have to defer to Wand on that," he says, looking briefly at Pandora Peters.

He sees the worry on Illyana's face and gives her hand another squeeze, "We'll find 'em. We'll get 'em. Maybe I should think about some sorta armor plating to wear, though. Just in case. I don't reckon I'd enjoy gettin' stabbed again. I guess the blast field sorta tricks me into thinkin' I'm invulnerable. Guess I learned othewrwise.

"Yes, she stabbed me. In the heart, even, as I said." Koa says to Keiko. If he was stabbed in the heart then how on earth was he moving when he got to the house? And wasn't he in Holland?

"Save the hair though. We can use that to ward the house so that it doesn't have to be abandoned. That'll take us a day or two though so you might still want to use those safehouses, Illyana."

Unless she wants to do the warding herself, which she certainly COULD.

"Either way I don't know that she'll try that again. She had to use deception to get close which suggests she probably couldn't just kick the door in."

Keiko's concern gets a nod. It does make things worse, but he's kind of out of it right now so this is the only way he can talk.

"I can't add too much more. I know that the Silence is connected to Siffror somehow and when she tried to kill me, Ananym told me that I'd gotten too close which… makes me think that she's got something to do with Siffror too."

That won't mean much to Sam, but it will to the other two.

"We can secure your house." Pandora assures Sam. "And in fact that's a priority because whomever this Witchfire is, we don't want her accessing what's in it. It's possible, though unlikely, that this is about that."

No reason to leave dimensional anomalies open for the taking.

"I'm sure SHIELD will get you some armor after this, Guthrie." Koa says. The pattern on his real neck is mirrored on his astral form and glimmers slightly as he rolls his shoulder. "That is if Keiko doesn't skin something and make it for you herself. Or Illyana doesn't magick it up."

"Turner are you good to keep handling this?" Peters asks the WAND agent.

Koa just nods.

"Good, then let me know if there's anything critical. I'll let you all recover now and I'm sure people want to talk."

Koa looks at Keiko. She's in no condition to do anything right now not that she knows that. And the other two, well. He's not sure. They might not be going anywhere right away either.

"I'll go spook the desk into letting Piotr and/or Mikhail get through when Illyana's critters catch up to them." He says, lifting into the air. "And Sam's right. We'll find them."

Hopefully. If they don't come looking first.
