Normally used for combat training, today the Danger Room was anything but. If anything… It was significantly safer than the actual real situation would be. Everyone knows electricity and water don't mix, especially Noriko, and she hadn't been swimming in ages. However, with a room that could simulate anything, taking the salt out of the ocean wasn't /too/ difficult. Water rendered non-conductive, that left Noriko relaxing on a virtual inner tube on the virtual water, virtual waves lapping at the shore. Hey, It's not like anyone else was using the room right now…
Carin is still exploring the mansion. The old fashioned way! Because she set her last pair of sneakers on fire accidentally and she's promised she won't go super fast until Dr. McCoy can create some sort of footwear that doesn't explode from friction. The Danger Room is one of those things she's heard about from a lot of people, so she's heading down there today, heading to the door. It currently marks it as safe to enter, according to the pad by it, so she opens it up, then steps inside, slowing as she realizes where she is, her jaw dropping a bit at the door closes behind her. "…holy crap."
The sound of the door opening and shutting again jerks Nori out of her relaxation, the blue haired teen rapidly sitting up and lowering her sunglasses a little. "Uh…. Hi." Her eyes dart towards her power gauntlets, still sitting on the sand. "…Totally not abusing the multi million dollar training simulator to go swimming without having to wear water wings to compensate for my gloves?"
Carin pauses, then takes off the slippers she has on, setting them by the door. Underneath her feet are a bit bandaged up along the sides as she starts taking careful steps out into the sand at first, then hops forward and lands on it. "Wow…hey, no worries…." the speedster says, looking around. "This is…wow…I've…I dont' know if I've ever been to a beach."
Nori winces a little at the sight of the bandages, before wiggling a bit and starting to paddle to shore. "Well, come on in. The water's fine. …As is the beach, if you don't actually know how to swim. Uh… "Danger Room, Give me another tube and a towell." The requested items shimmer in out of pixels about three feet in the air above the sand, before dropping down. "There you are. …Do you actually know how to swim?"
Carin ponders. "I…don't know." she admits with a sigh, drooping a little. "Um, but I'm sure I can do okay with waves by the beach or something? She pauses, hesistating. "Um, I don't have a suit though, is that okay?" She scoops up the inner tube, looking it over curiously, flexing it a little bit. "I guess if I'm floating it's okay right?"
"I mean, this is just a sports bra and panties. Swimsuits are expensive. Like 30 bcuks for the top, and 30 more for the bottom." Nori shrugs. "But floating's pretty good. Kind of what I'm doing. Just relaxing, enjoying the feel of the air on my arms… Fair warning, I"m probably a lot more staticy than usual. And if we pause the simulation, I'm pretty sure the water turns solid enough that you can climb out of it."
Carin hesistates. "So no one is going to walk in on us?" she says, starting to unbutton her shorts, then letting them fall with a little hip wiggle and stepping out of them. She pauses, then the shirt follows, leaving her in…well, neon blue panties and sport bra. Tragic fashion sense, or colorblind? Hard to tell! She walks over towards the water, stepping out carefully to dip her toes in the water. She mmms "…it's not salty?" she says curiously.
"I mean, probably not. Or if they do, they probably won't care." Nori flicks her fingers through the water, watching the way the droplets glint in the sun. "And yeah, had to get rid of the salt. Electrolytes conduct electricity, and electricity and water are not a happy combination if the water's conductive. Hence the grounding strap in our shower." She winces a bit, giving a one shouldered shrug. "Sorry?
"Oh no! It's fine, I was kinda afraid it was gonna burn my feet, they're still healing. Salt on wounds and stuff, right?" She walks into the water carefully, until it's up to about mid-thigh, before she puts down the tube so it floats, before she eases herself back into it with a little splash, then grins at Nori triumphantly.
"Ooooh. Yeah, that'd be bad." Nori returns the grin, giving Carin a thumbs up. "Welcome to our little slice of paradise, for the few hours it lasts. Upside: When the sim stops, you don't have to dry off, since none of the water was real in the first place. How've you been settling in?"
"Um, pretty good…kinda wrecked my Converse though." she says with a sigh. "That's how I burnt my feet. It's not bad though!" she says as she leans back in the tube, letting it slowly rotate. "…this is kinda nice. Like a bigger bath. I can see why you come here." she wiggles her toes a little bit. "I mean, no classes yet, but it's…nice. I gotta room, and people have been cool so far…" She looks curious. "That Piotr guy took me out for ice cream and pie and I met her sister, who is like, major intense gothitude."
"Yeah. He's chill, she's not chill. People are awesome here in general. Hope your feet heal quickly, though." Nori kicks a little, floating slowly in Carin's direction. "Anything I can do to help with stuff?"
"…having someone to hang out would be cool…" Carin murmurs, a little shyly. "I mean…I've met people but…they all got their own thing, so I haven't really gotten to chill with anyone yet. I mean, not just…hanging out, you know?" She frowns. "…I don't know what I did for hanging out before."
"Well, I'm cool to hang out whenever." Noriko starts to reach out to gently squeeze Carin's shoulder, but pulls back quickly. "…Actually, bit of a bad idea without the gauntlets. Apparently I'm uncomfortably prickly. Hella static, you know?"
Carin nods sympathetically. "Thought that counts?" she offers. "Can you play playstation without frying the controller?" she wonders. "I mean…it's kinda cheating for me though, my reactions are way faster than most people can keep up with. So I don't do PvP stuff much." She wrinkles her nose. "People keep thinking I'm an aimbot."
"If I was wearing my gauntlets, I could. They're kinda clunky though, so that messes with my dexterity a bit." Nori shrugs again. "Kinda surprised you don't run into issues with being too fast for the hardware itself, though."
Carin taps her head. "The whole Brain Box thing fixes that, apparently. Helps me stay in sync with my speed, y'know? It's cheating, but it's helpful in stuff like that." she admits, kicking her feet idly in the water.
"Ah. So there's at least one upside to being a cyborg. I used to have all sorts of issues with like… mental runaway before I ended up here. Like… Turbo ADHD. Brain just constantly racing, I couldn't think straight. Ended up having to use downers to stay mostly lucid." Noriko chews her lip a bit, staring down into the water. Not exactly the best memories.
"So you're, like, overcharged in your brain too?" Carin says curiously, frowning. "So you can't, um, use that for tests or stuff so you're thinking extra good, or is it just…all messy?"
"Yeah, it doesn't actually make me think /better/. Just fast, and kind of incoherent. The gauntlets help me regulate my charge level so that doesn't happen. Also let me be slightly less horrible about draining all the batteries around me." That gets a wry smirk from the blue haired teen. "A lot better than being a walking brownout, let me tell you."
"So where does all that power go, you just gotta…bleed it off through the power gloves?" CArin asks curiously. "I mean, if you're constantly absorbing it, do you constantly have be using it?
"The gloves are kind of like capacitors. They also help me so I passively absorb less? …I'm not entirely sure how they work." Nori gives another shrug. "I'm not a tech expert like the people who built them. But they definitely help."
Carin huhs, splasying her hands in the water a bit as she drifts a bit closer. "Me neither. Dr. McCoy is making some for me that are less murdertastic, and coloring up my uniform so it's not that ugly AIM yellow… all over, I mean. I gave him plans!" She drew them, even. Which is mostly a color scheme.
"Yeah, he's pretty awesome. I'm glad you're fitting in so far. And if there's ever anything I can do to help, just ask, okay?" Noriko's smile is genuine, the look in her eyes a little distant as she thinks back to her own arrival. "We've got to stick together, yeah?"
"…yeah…" Carin murmurs, letting her head loll back. "So, ah…how long have you been here, then?" she wonders. "Long enough to figure out how to make a beach like this?"
"About a year. …Admittedly it took me like… eight months to figure this out though." Nori bites her lip. "I like it here. It's home now."
Carin mms, then opens her emerald eyes, peering up at the simulated sky overhead. "I think it's the best home I've ever been in." she admits soberly. "I remembered a little bit about it…how I ended up in foster homes."
"…Okay, this feels like the kind of serious conversation that requires a hug, so… I can put the gauntlets back on if you want." Nori's eyes flick back over to the shore again. "Should I?"
Carin snorts a bit, then smiles weakly. "Nah, it's cool…my life just kinda sucked even before I was kidnapped. I'm getting used to it." she says fatalistically. "but it's true, anyway. This place feels…safe. It isn't like foster homes where you feel like you're just…temporarily there. Following rules, putting up with people who are dealing with their own issues. Y'know. This is paradise practically."
"Well… I'm glad I can be part of it." Nori offers her own smile in return. "Honestly, I think you're pretty awesome and I'm glad you're here. …Plus, kicking those guys' butts while rescuing you was pretty fun too."
Carin hehs. "Yeah, you did great at that….and I dunno why you'd think I'm awesome, though. I don't do have the stuff all the Xmen do." She squirms a bit in the tube. "I mean, you were…brave. You didn't even know who I was and you wanted to help me…"
"…Well yeah. Those guys were obviously assholes, and you didn't want to go with them. What kind of a person would I be if I let them kidnap you?" She nudges Carin's tube gently. "And it's not that hard to be brave when you've got a fist full of lightning." She grins, snapping her fingers and striking an arc between her thumb and index, before 'blowing' it out
Carin giggles softly. "Yeah, that's true. You girls were all badass." she admits. "I don't know if I could have gotten away from them without you being there."
"Well, we were. And… You can be there for people too if you want. And we've got your back." Nori flashes a double thumbs up. Sure, it's cheesy, but… It's true and heartfealt.
Carin squirms. "I'd like to help…I feel like I should." she admit softly. "I…I dunno how good I'd be at it." She smiles a little though. "Thanks, though…"
"We all feel like that at the beginning." Noriko offers an encouraging smile. "That's what training is for. And what this room is for. …Well, when I'm not flagrantly abusing it for relaxation purposes, that is. But I figure everyone else gets to use the outside pool, so I deserve it."
Carin looks around thoughfully. "Um…huh. I…don't know how this would work with my speed. I mean…it's still a room. I'm not sure how you seem to move around or if there's a barrier I can't see…"
"Honestly, I'm not entirely sure how it all works either. You'd have to ask Dr. McCoy, he's one of the ones who helped build it in the first place." Another shrug from Nori. "Hmmm. I wonder…. Danger Room, Mango Smoothie." She holds up her hand hopefully, before sighing as absolutely nothing happens. "Damnit."
The redhead speedster giggles. "It probably would be really 'light' on calories, anyway' Too bad!" She grins a bit. "Mmm, we could make our own though later. I've never made a smoothy, it' sjust…milk and mangos in a blender, right?"
"…And ice? I think? Well, that's what google's for. You'll have to use your phone, though. I think my battery's dead." A wry snort. "As always."
