It's not difficult to summone one particular member of the Spiders…Web Warriors? Hmm…because she is living two floors above him.
Peter looks up from the lighted table, where a complete analysis of the cells he picked up is listed. He takes a deep breath, then checks the Spider-Comm sysyem to see if Mayday is active, or sleeping.
He had a lot to tell her.
The return ping would indicate that May's mask wasn't on at the moment, but there'd been activity recently. It was late, but the other spider in the house /had/ been working on studying lately. With some help from her new boss, she'd managed to get enough documentation to be able to enter into a GED program. As such, she's hunched over a laptop, chewing on her lip as she pages through information
Peter checks it, then decides to reach her in the usual fashion. Namely, by sending a text.
"Pete here. In the lab. When you've got some time, can you come on down?"
He looked at the paper again and sighed. As if things weren't complicated enough…
The buzz of her phone breaks May's concentration, and after a quick check of her messages, she heads downstairs and lets herself into the basement. Pete's warning would be pounding feet on the stairs, followed by May herself dropping into a chair. "Sooo… what's up? And don't worry, All you interrupted was history. Never my best subject anyway."
Peter was waiting for her next to the wide, backlit table. He did not look happy or even amused. He was focused and intent, and Mayday has seen this when he was Spider-Man.
"I wanted to check in with you on a few things, and then tell you about a few things I found. First thing i wanted to ask…how is the webfluid I made for you working on those webshooters of yours?"
"It's working fine…" May trails off, tilting her head a bit to one side. "Okay, seriously, what's the big issue you called me down here about. You're doing that thing where you look like you're hiding a frog in your mouth again." Her lips twitch upward for a moment, before the teen gets serious again.
Peter sighed. "Okay. Long story short…I ran into another Spider a few days ago. New…only because he's new to this world. His name is Ben Reilly…and he's genetically, at least….me. Or at least a clone of me."
May's face pales as soon as Pete says the name of his clone, and she leans forward a bit more intently. "You mean… he's alive? …Of course he's alive, different universe…" She facepalms, taking a moment to collect herself, before looking up again. "Well… That's one less awkward conversation to have with you. I'm pretty sure I"m not supposed to talk about spoilers and stuff… It's not /really/ time travel, but…" She shrugs, grinning weakly. "These are actually his webshooters, you know. Well, the one from my universe. You had them in your attic."
Peter hmms. "This alternative-universe stuff tends to get a little dicey. But the thing is, I'm not sure he WANTS to be a Spider. Not in the helping-other-people way. He referred to himself as the Scarlet Spider."
"Yeah. …Which is also awkward, since I'd just gone back to that since it got confusing talking about the other Spider-Girl…" May sighs, fiddling with the hem of her shirt. "I can see it, though. He didn't really have a choice in the whole powers business. What's he been doing lately then?"
Peter smiles wryly. "Laying low. Doing construction work, I believe. Staying out of the public eye. Can't blame him, though. Stuck in a world different from his own…I thought to do something for him, but it sounds like he's got himself settled in, and it's up to him if he wants to get involved. We can't force him into it, though."
May nods again. "Yeah. Kind of makes sense. I'd already got into the hero thing for years by the time I showed up here, and it's harder for a teenage girl to get under the table jobs and stuff." She leans over, resting one elbow on the table, chin in her hand. "It's good to know he's here, though. You know, in case of emergency kind of thing."
Peter nods. "I'm also developing a new version of the suit. If all goes well, maybe I can even develop one for you. Same style, just a better design. How do you feel about that?"
"So /that's/ what you've been spending all your time working on down here." Pete gets a gentle punch in the shoulder, May's grin getting a lot more genuine. "I honstly still have no idea how you get enough fexibility out of stuff that's not actually spandex. But yeah, I'm interested. What kind of upgrades?"
