It was, as always, beautiful in the Kingdom of Atlantis. THe people were happy, and recently there was a holiday celebrating the founding of their great civilization. Now though? It is a day like any other. Though, in the palace, Namor seems to be floating by himself, Trident planted into the ground. By his word, one of the servants arrives and Namor tells them to bring him Lady Mera. The Servant then proceeds to make haste to retrieve her Ladyship.

Namor, though usually appearing as a warrior in all he does as King…is simply wearing Atlantian scale on his lower body. He leaves his top exposed, except for the golden bracelets on his wrists and the shark necklace around his neck. He seems to be looking upon his kingdom.

They appear joyful. Happy even. This paradise is in good spirits.

Mera will, of course, arrive as soon as she is able. Even if she is in New York, it will not take long for her to return with her swimming speed. And soon she arrives, dressed in her green scaled bodysuit, red hair floating in the water. She takes a knee and bows. "You summoned me, Your Majesty? How may I be of service?"

Namor turns his head to look upon Mera as she arrives and respectfully addresses the King. Turning to face her, Namor gestures. "Rise. Tell me, how are you, Lady Mera?" Namor seems genuine in his question as he floats down to her to stand on the Atlantean stone beneath their feet. His eyes don't leave hers, though he does seem to be wanting to ask her something else.

Which he definitely gets to.

"and how is your time on the surface? Educational?"

Mera floats to her feet though she is reticent to look into the eyes of her king; he is far too above her station. "I am well, My Lord. I am glad to see you hale and hearty. The people are happy…as always." Platitudes out of the way, Mera's expression hardens a little at talk of the surface. "It is indeed educational, your Majesty, though also very concerning. They do not care about their own world so why should they care about ours? And there is so much greed. The number of humans I have met who want to steal… Though I have also met some more noble ones."

Namor still looks at Mera even as she is slow to look him in the eyes. "I am happy to hear this." Though as she speaks of the consistent poison that is the surface. "That is the curse of the surface worlders. They only care about the material. What they get out of their actions…how little work they can do to earn it. But..there is a goodness to them. Nevertheless, this is not why I have summoned you here." Namor clenches his fist lightly, though its not out of aggression. Nervousness?

"I would like to ask you something. And you have permission to refuse or avoid." He continues to look upon her.

"There is a goodness to some of them" Mera admits…reluctantly. "You may ask anything of me, my Lord" Mera replies with a slight bow of her head before lifting her eyes a little more. Namor is nervous? That never happens. Permission to refuse? Mera is more than a little confused but keeps it our of her expression.

"I will be blunt." When is Namor not blunt? Though he doesn't say it, he does seem appreciative of her willingness to be asked anything. "When my father died, and I took to the throne, no princesses exist in the kingdom, for treachery saw to that. I have many suitors, but all for the wrong reasons. None of them I could trust. From a political standpoint, I find this question a logical one to ask…because it means that I may choose."

He takes a breath.

"But from a personal standpoint…it is different. I wish to know more about you…and to that end, I would like to ask to be able to court you." The build up for Namor, was perhaps a little unnecessary, but he also wanted to make sure she knew he was approaching this from two different angles. But, he gave her the choice, it was up to her to decide what she wanted to do. He keeps his full attention on Mera, though its usually in moments where Namor lowers his guard that a messenger enters saying Attuma is attacking or something.

That's certainly not what Mera was expecting. She can't help her eyes opening in surprise before she recovers her composure. "Your majesty…are you sure about this? I am but a noble…not a very prominent noble at that. And I am a half-breed. Are you sure the Lords of Atlantis will find this idea of yours to be an insult to them?" Is that a little smirk at the thought of them being shocked and horrified?

Mera takes a deep breath. "My king, if you wish to court me, then I will be honored." It is no guarantee that anything may happen after all. "Though there are no Atlantean princesses you consider worthy…what of the humans? A political marriage to keep the peace." That will certainly get the nobles upset.

Namor kinda figured he'd surprise her a little bit, though as she asks about his certainty, Namor grins. "Did you forget, Lady Mera, that I too am a half-breed. Besides, I would think that you would take great pleasure and amusement in the shocking of the other nobles." he seems amused by the thought, though when she agrees to the courtship, Namor seems doubly pleased. He gives a light bow of the head, for he approached her as a man, not a King. "You honor me."

Though as she speaks about the humans, Namor seems directly opposed. "Now that would be complicated. Doing such an action would anger the nobles to the point of civil war. Not to mention, there are none among the surface that I consider worthy of giving my heart to." and that…speaks volumes about Mera's character and strength of heart.

Flattery is certainly not something Mera is opposed to receiving. "You may be a half-breed, my Lord, but you are also king. They shall serve your commands because of that. I…I am but a half-breed, they would never obey me." Even as queen, is the unsaid thought…but she's making leaps she shouldn't. They've only started courting after all. And she's not sure what she's supposed to do next. "Will this be a public courtship?"

Namor looks at Mera with a chuckle. "If you became my queen, they would follow you. Its not your origin that makes you worthy, its your dedication to our people and your willingness to see even the greatest trials through." Though as she asks if this would be a public courtship, Namor nods. "That would be my intension. Though if you would prefer it to be more private, I would accept such a thing as well."

Mera considers the question on the courtship with some care. "If it would be acceptable to his Majesty, perhaps we should learn about each other a bit more before we make the courting public. If you do not find me worthy…or vice versa…we can end it before it causes anxiety among the nobility. If we wish to progress things further, then I shall happily court in public. I would be proud to do so."

Namor seems to nod lightly. "I understand your way of thinking. Very well, lets make it so." Namor nods, looking at her…he seems to smile when she claims that if this works out, she would be proud to stand beside him. "And I you, Lady Mera." he ponders for a moment. "So then…would you tell me about yourself? For example…you seem to always be on official business. What do you do for fun, or relaxation?" He asks Mera. The first step to knowing someone else beyond what you already know is to simply ask the question.

"Relaxation?" Mera has to think on this a moment…maybe put that answer off for later. "It is not always official business" she admits. "I am curious. I like to understand the world around us. Sometimes that includes visiting the surface dwellers, though I cannot hope to understand them yet. I suppose that is what I do for enjoyment. Learn." A pause before a wry smile appears. "And fight. Fight for our home."

Namor listens to Mera as she speaks about her curiousity and understanding the world around them. "Learning…not a bad hobby at all. Fighting, an even more admirable trait." he winks at her, before Namor ponders. "I suppose my hobby is reading. I enjoy reading up specifically on history. For if one does not know history, we are doomed to repeat it." he smiles, floating with her as they spend the day just..talking.
