Bobby only arrived back in New York a few days ago, and his appearance at the Institute even more recently. His luggage still hasn't been unpacked, though he's at least been assigned a temporary room until his situation is officially sorted out. It feels both good, and a little strange, to be back here at the mansion, but overall Bobby feels it's what needs to be. He could have gone home to his parents, but ever since he first left Fort Washington he's felt like his being there would only make it harder on his family. He'll put in a call in the morning, he decides silently to himself. For now, it's a quiet walk around the grounds, re-familiarizing himself with the place, and seeing what has changed in the few years he's been away. California had been a change of scenery and a change of pace, and at the time what he had needed, but this will always be his real home.

*

Rogue has been scarce around the mansion the last month or more. It had started as a vacation, then some soul searching, but she's back working at the old man's shop the town over, and is slowly moving back into a regular schedule.

The deep auburn hair is the same, the face has refined a bit in the last few years, but what might strike Bobby the most - she's in a t-shirt and jeans, and there's not a glove in sight. Rogue isn't cringing or hiding, she's just coming back from the direction of the lake. She'll see that familiar face, and there's a girlish squeal before she'll bum rush Bobby with the intent of tackling him for a hug.

*

It's a good thing Bobby saw her coming first, or he'd have gone down like a sack of wet potatoes. As it is, he catches Rogue on approach, turning around with her a few times to mitigate some of that momentum, and gives her a good solid squeeze. "Hey, watch the goods, lady," he jokes before letting her feet touch the ground again. "Was wondering where everyone'd gotten to. I mean jeez, I've been here a whole day already!"

*

Rogue lets out giddy noises, holding on tight while he spins her. She grins up at him, green eyes full of life and mischief like they used to be, back in class. "I've been in the city. Long story, but I took some time off away from here and all that. I'm just coming back around."

A hand lifts, pushing her hair back from her face. "Well look at you, mister handsome college grad. I didn't know you were coming, or I would have tried to find you sooner! How are you? Are you back for good?"

*

"Aw, shucks," Bobby plays at some mock-modesty, and takes a step back to look Rogue over. "Hey, I am the poster boy for time away," he says with a couple bobs of his head. Four years away; not that Bobby was in bad shape and obviously needed it, but those four years were good for him. "Once I finished my degree, UCLA was all 'hey, if you want to stay longer you need to give us money', so I thought to myself, 'where is there a school I can stay at for free?' and this was the only place that came to mind," he jokes. "So yeah, I'm back. Frankly, I don't know how you guys managed without me for so long."

*

Rogue laughs at him, moving to take his arm to steer him around and start walking. "It was a trial, let me tell you. There was no one to really irritate Scott. He so needs it. He's got a lot going on, he could use the jokester around." Her head tips to rest against his shoulder, but what might really freak him out is her skin has touched his multiple times, without any damage.

*

"Yeah, I'm sure he _really_ missed me," Bobby drags it out to emphasize the sarcasm. He walks with her when she takes his arm, not flinching at any contact, though the development is certainly a welcome surprise. "So you're able to touch people now, hey? That's pretty awesome," he says with no hint of judgement. He was probably one of the few who weren't ever particularly nervous about her when they were in school together. Probably in no small part because when he was first starting out at the school, he had his own hangups about touching people because of his powers.

*

"Well, he's in some sort of love triangle, and he's had kids show up from the future, a long lost brother.. I mean, the guy could use some levity in his life. And of course, he missed out on /me/." Rogue jokes, her hand finding his to squeeze. "Sometimes. It's not perfect control. If I get too upset or angry, that sort of thing, I lose control. Just like the young kids." She snickers at herself.

*

"Well of _course_ all that happened to him. Scott Summers is, and always has been, a major drama queen." Is he joking? It's actually hard to tell, with how deadpan Bobby's voice has gone. But then, it's Bobby, so joking is his default state. Sarcasm is a second language in which he is fluent. "I'll have to sit him down and set him straight. And by that I mean get him drunk and have him spill the details." Because they couldn't do that when they were in school, but now it's fair game. Which reminds him: "I'll have to double check what the alcohol-on-campus policy is like." Can't get kicked out before he's even settled in, after all.

"Eh, you could do better than Scott. Too uptight for you." He squeezes her hand right back. It's nice that they can actually do that now. She'll find his skin cold to the touch, but that certainly beats being accidentally turned into a human popsicle. "None of us have perfect control, though. The last time Starbucks messed up my latte the barista almost got frostbite when I handed it back to her. I mean, how hard is it to add the extra two pumps of vanilla?" He grins. Yes, he felt a bit badly about that, but seriously, it's coffee, not rocket science.

*

"It's..interesting, at the least. I'm not sure what the whole status is, but maybe you and some booze can pry it out of him. Take him down to Harry's, get him soused, make him spill his guts on the drive back. He could probably use some male influence."

She's blushing, looking away from him. "I don't know. I mean, this whole mess started because I seriously misread signals, during a conversation about dating. I'm not sure I'm ready, you know? I want to, and I mean it would be nice, but.." She shrugs. "Remy's back around, too. He took off for a while, but he's back, and somehow got cursed while hanging out with Illyana. Runes or something on his abs, poor guy."

*

"God I missed New York," Bobby says with a bit of a laugh. "Nothing on that level ever happened out west. It was all small-time crooks and unimaginative racists," he explains with a shrug. "It's like a never-ending party of weird around here though, isn't it? As far as Scott, maybe I'll see if I can loosen the lid a bit. My and my good friend Jose." Admittedly, Jose does most of the work there. "Wait, are you taking responsibility for this 'future kids' thing, too? Damn, girl." He grins, and elbows her lightly.

*

Rogue elbows him back, giving him a 'look'. "No. I don't really know much about it. Just heard some of the whispers. You'd have to ask Jean or Scott to really get the dirt on that one." She shrugs. "I'm super happy you're back, though. I've missed you. We can actually go drinking together. Legally!"

*

"In all honesty, that sounds like a can of worms even I'd be hesitant to crack open," Bobby says, letting a bit of a nervous laugh out. "I swear to god, if my future kids ever come visit, you have to promise to _end me_. Dead serious. Make it quick and painless. It'll be better for everyone." He shudders visibly, probably for effect. "Or yeah, just lots, and lots of booze. I'll take that option any day!" He grins at Rogue, and gives her another squeeze around the waist. "I've missed you too. Glad there's at least one person who's happy to see me." Bobby fully expects at least a few pained groans once word gets around that he's moving back in.

*

"Especially if those kids aren't necessarily with the new girlfriend you've got, right? Let's be honest… Scott may deserve this! This may be punishment for future sins." Rogue will grin up at Bobby. "Always happy to see you, honey. Someone I can hang out with again that's not going to treat me either as fragile, or venomous." She will lean in to hug him as they walk. "Are you hungry? I really want to go scrounge something up in the kitchen. Come on, it'll be like old times!"

*

Bobby lets out a laugh, "Oh that makes it _so_ much worse!" Yes, there's humour in others' pain. He'll be laughing about that to himself for a while to come. And he doesn't even feel bad about it. "Yes, so much yes. Food. Kitchen raiding. Let's do it." And a sharp turn toward the mansion they take. You can't idly suggest food to Bobby if you don't want him to immediately change all of his plans to accommodate the idea.
