It's been raining for hours by now, not that it usually mattered. Tonight though, well Florence had been sitting around waiting on the phone to ring. A high value target, intelligence assets needed to report and it's all honestly sort of a mess. A mess Florence doesn't usually have to be involved in, unless it's already gone completely sideways. It was almost like a night off, something she's not exactly used to. The idleness of it all is terrible.
There had been time to lay out the night's rolling kit, and then change it three times to make sure the colors had a good degree of tonal variation. Time enough for her to play with her swords, to clean her already cleaned guns. Time to work out a second time, and take another shower. Time enough to sit down to read, before failing out of idle restlessness. Finally she snags her phone, eyes narrowing. There are texts sent, securing a tentative confirmation that she was off for the night.
She flips through her contacts, and fire one off. Free hand snagging a bottle of cheap wine as she strolls towards the living room.
Hey Foxxy, night off. Gonna watch a movie, wanna come over?
Silly rainy nights were a mess, and as she was staring outside, Junko sighed. Hanging against the window frame, she pondered which of the city's heroes atually did do rain tours, just when her phone rang. Who would text her at this late?! She went to see the mobile, picking it up and unlocking it. The number she didn't instantly recognize. Wait, the girl from the fencing group? She took some minutes, thinking about if she should accept the invitation.
About twenty minutes later, she was down in her garage, starting her Orange Fury colored Ford Mustang GT. The engine roared in the small confines as she tested it a moment, then set back onto the street and went on the way over to the address she had gotten from Florence.
Flo's building is, well it's money. It's exclusive enough to have a decidedly well secured garage down below, and with a code supplied over text the elevator up to the eighth floor. The door code too, works like a charm. Beeping happily before the door pops open.
It's a big apartment really, its just full of stuff which means that beside those big glass windows it's really quite cozy. Book cases line virtually every wall, stacked with a mixture of old French and English tomes. There are some picture frames hidden here and there, including a full page spread from a Parisian news paper featuring a pair of young girls. One dressed like a musketeer with a scarf across her face, rapier resting on her shoulder. The girl next to her is dressed as a classic witch, her own face obscured by a mixture of her straw broom and a broad witch's hat.
Florence lifts a glass from the couch, rising casually to head towards her guest. Dressed in, well what she usually wears under her fighting kit. Leggings and a tight wicking long sleeve, which may not be terribly discrete of course but well if Flo cares it's hardly showing. "How good of you, take a seat anywhere. I've got uhh, Godzilla versus the space monster on I think?"
As Junko gets up, she smiles a little, putting her backpack down, into which she had stuffed some necessities for a movie night, including something comfy to wear, as the red blouse and dress trousers didn't look that comfy for wearing on the sofa at all. "How have you been?" she asks over to the couch as she bows a little, her eyes darting over the shelves a couple moments before she steps over to settle down. "Which Gojira film? Space monsters are… let me recount… Mosura tai Gojira, Sandai Kaiju: Chikyu Saidai no Kessen, Kaiju Daisenso, Kaiju Soshingeki, Gojira tai Hedora, Chikyu Kogeki Meirei: Gojira tai Gaigan, Gojira tai Mosura or Gojira tai SupesuGojira? That should be all of them that contain some alien…" She doesn't recount any of the 2000-remakes, only the classics from the Showa and Heisei period.
"Well it was on.."That'd be, planet X and King Ghidorah. Anywho Flo casually pours out another glass of the cheap red stuff, before offering it over. "Been alright I suppose, been waiting on a call for work all night that never came."Slumping comfortably back down to retake her own glass with a soft humm. "Did some sword training, did laundry of a sort. The typical stuff, nothing too terribly interesting I'm afraid. Yourself, dear?"because masks and automatic weapons, totally typical.
Junko shrugs a moment, taking the glass and smelling at it before putting it to the table with a smile. "Not much. I couldn't sleep, and Movie night was more appealing than watching some Anime alone. Wagaya no Oinari-sama is on top of my stack, if I remember correctly," she muses, pointing to her bag. "Can I use the bathroom to switch into something more comfortable?"
Theres a dismissive wave offered"By all means, wear whatever you want. This is hardly a formal affair, of course. Be comfortable, theres a guest bedroom on the right down the hall if you want to stay the night even. That wine isn't -bad-, it's just plain and a little too strong. The perfect thing for a casual night in, as it were.
A couple minutes Junko vanishes into the bathroom, coming back in a onesie. A cream colored one with a hood and triangular ears. In other words, a Kigurumi. "So, Gojira, hmm?" she asks as she settles back in and taking her glass back up, her feet only in some socks by now. "You know the story behind them? I mean, why they were made in the first place and how they changed?"
Theres gasp followed by an "oooooo, aren't you just adorable. Can never fault a girl who likes foxes for sure."She arches back subtly, extending one arm along the back of the couch to go for a proper sneak attack. Settling that hand on Junko's shoulder with a smirk, tugging gently in invitation to snuggle up good and proper"Well not really, but they used to show them every morning back when I was a little girl. Eight in the morning, every morning it was Godzilla movies with -terrible- French dubs. So they're sort've a comfort, though I confess I've never dug -too- deeply."
The redhead nods with a little chuckle, leaning back, following the pull just enough to lean against Florence's shoulder. "Well, Gojira is a monster of destruction. It destroyed Tokyo in pretty much all the movies," she elaborates, her shoulders rolling as she makes herself comfortable. "That's in the beginning an allegory for the destruction of the war, just like all the Kaiju movies. Some say Gojira is the personified nuclear bomb. Then, there is a change. In some movies he is the protector of Japan against other monsters. It's a mirror of how America beceame the shield of Japan."
"I always thought he was a representation of some sort of natural order, a Kami I think yes?"See Florence has read stuff god damnit! Tugging Junko in tight as she parks her feet up on the coffee table, casually crossing her legs at the ankle. "I'd offer something French to watch, because it seems like we've both seen this a hundred times but I don't have anything fun unfortunately. Always favored big Kaiju stuff, and American Westerns. The French stuff tends to be a little, overly serious more often than not."
The asian girl chuckles as Florence offers to change the movie, shaking her head a little "Actually, I am totally fine with it. They don't show them that often on TV, and while I know the gist and general story, I havn't seem all of them." She stretches her shoulders a little, leaning a little more into the hug as she watches to the flickering old movie on the screen.
"I'll have to go look, but I think there are more Godzilla movies than James bond movies."And a pause as she ponders "What about the one with the blind…Zatoichi? Aren't there a billion of those too? Only seen a few of those, and well next movie should -probably- have swords."And a smirk as she leans in a wee bit, lowering her voice "Or foxes."
"Zatoichi is a classic. I mean, sure, most are black and white, but chanbara are a different sentient than Kaiju movies. A 'history drama' so to say, much like the the films with Mifune as Sanjuro. You know, the guy from Yojimbo." Junko asnwered, giggling a moment as she actually listed her job title in the sentence. "You know a film about the later? I mean, safe for Anime?"
"The Fantastic Mr.Fox, Zootopia, Fox and the Hound though that one is obnoxiously sad, The Tale of the Fox though thats in French and has crazy scary puppets."Theres a humm there "Though The tale is pretty neat, we don't get to see good Reynard stories very often. They're all sort of forgotten these days, only movie starring the Reynard unfortunately."
"Hm… Isn't the Disney Robin Hood also insired by the stories of Reynard, at least in assigning the cast?" Junko asked, shrugging a little. "And there was some animation in german of sorts. But what are you up for?" she asks with a smile, content with her position.
"Well sort've, though they had no Tybalt who's sort've important. The Reynard cycle itself isn't terribly, central but the cast is sort've important. The jerk king, isn't Tybalt by any stretch. Lacking the primary antagonist, it's not quite Reynard."And a pause "Also, Reynard isn't a bowman. It's sort've a jerk play to give the British fox a bow, and presume to call him the Reynard. The Reynard uses an Estoc, an Espada Ropera or a Rapier depending on the period it's set in."Theres a sage little nod there.
"The bow makes Robin a Welsh, doesn't it?" Junko tease, shrugging a little at the blade disambugation. "Well, the more you know…"
