Background

Jeriah London was a bright kid born to Victor and Jaqueline London in Los Angeles. He joined the military out of high school and excelled there, moving to special forces in the second year of his first tour. He spent the next six years in black operations, largely dealing with experimental tech projects and augmentives.

When he retired at the end of his second tour at the age of 26, he went right into the private security business with a company called Direct Action. Given his background it perhaps wasn't surprising that he soon found himself working again with experimental weapons provided by a company called Primary Impulse Engineering. This time though, the systems - a series of advanced combat drones - required actual enhancement of Jeriah himself. But the operation seemed legitimate and the pay was good, so he accepted.

All went well for about a year and Jeriah was asked to test other things, like a new reconfigurable energy weapon and a set of subdermal armor implants. And then, quite by accident, Jeriah made a horrifying discovery. PIE was a front for Advanced Idea Mechanics, and they and his unit had made a deal to test weapons for eventual sale to Genosha.

So one night he did the sensible, level headed thing. He hacked a squad's worth of combat canines, rounded up a few people in his unit that he could trust and went to war. The resulting firefight destroyed most of the tech in the PIE test facility and leveled the complex. When it was all done, though, several researchers and nearly a dozen people from Direct Action were unaccounted for and the worst part was that Jeriah didn't know if they were prisoners or hostages or were in on the deal somehow.

For a time Jeriah tried to follow up on that full time but the trial was difficult to follow and eventually he had to go back to work to support himself. So work he did, now hiring himself out as a consultant to PMCs and even SHIELD on occasion but he's never escaped the fallout of that night. AIM holds a grudge for sure and they regularly try to get back their own. And he still gets pings of… ghosts. Sightings or rumors of the people that went missing. He's still looking, trying to find a way to unravel this Gordian knot. And what he'll find when he does?

Even he's not sure of that.

Powers

• Wired for Sound: Jeriah has cyberware implants near the base of his neck that allow him to interact with network capable devices within a 7 mile range, including his drones. The implants also let him treat his own brain as a processor and storage space, letting him record, copy, transfer and otherwise organize sensory information and memories. (See Jury Rigged and Information overload for complications and limitations).

• Reverbium Carapace: An implanted subdermal layer of exotic materials can be energized by Jeriah's implants to create a layer of sonic armor that makes him immune to personal firearms and resistant to larger battlefield weaponry. Twin projectors in each forearm allow him to create a 'riot shield' centered on his arm with the same properties.

• Electro-Kinetic Power Core: All of Jeriah's implants are a reverbium core in his spine and special terminals in his hands let him transfer that power to other devices (See Exotic Arsenal for details). In addition to that, they also let him create charged fields around his fists that let him strike with additional force in unarmed combat (ranging from being tazed to sufficient force to break security glass or toss a grown man through an interior wall).

Skills

• Soldier of Fortune: Jeriah has spent most of his life in the soldiering profession at elite levels and has the skills to show it. He has extensive survival skills, elite armed and unarmed combat skills, and superb physical conditioning. He also speaks Russian, Peshtu and Chinese - all languages important in his old AO. He's also reasonably well off. Private Military work pays well, as it turns out.

• Hacker Elite: Jeriah was trained in electronic and information warfare both during his time in the service and once he went private and he is quite simply very very good at it. It helps that, being able to use his brain as a computer, he can cheat a bit.

• Augmentive Specialist: Much of Jeriah's time has been spent dealing with experimental augmentive projects and he's picked up a LOT doing that - particularly in these last four years. He knows a fair bit about robotics, advanced drones, networking and cybernetics. However because a lot of his training was 'on the job' he's missing a fair bit of theory and that means he's a lot better at repairing, improving and iterating on existing things than he is at coming up with things out of whole cloth.

Advantages

• Little Birds and Big Dogs: Jeriah has two kinds of drones he regularly uses. The small kind he generally has 4-5 of and knows how to build more. The larger kind he only has 3 of and can only repair, modify or improve them without outside help. All drones are capable of operating off of simple, preprogrammed instructions (autonomously mode) but cannot in this state do anything other than execute simple logic chains which makes them unable to react to evolving situations outside of those parameters. Altering those instructions requires opening an active connection.
• The small kind can fly at about 35 mph and is small enough to fit through windows. It carries a thermal IR camera, a manipulator arm and a modular turret that can accept tranqs, a stunner or sonic blaster (equivalent of a machine pistol).
• The large kind takes the shape metallic dog 4.5 ft tall at the shoulder. It is armored against anything short of anti-vehicle weapons, can run at 80 mph, has jump jets, a 1 ton carry capacity, claws and jaws that can shred common building materials and a retractable back turret that can accept either a rapid fire sonic blaster or a mini plasma bolt launcher (at most equivalent to a modern machine gun or grenade launcher in damage and range).

• Polymorphic Weapon Array: Jeriah is equipped with a reconfigurable energy weapon powered by his power core and implants that can variously serve as a heavy pistol, shotgun or carbine, with a range and power similar to a mundane version of the same weapon type, but capable of shooting either nonlethal sonic blasts or electro plasma bolts which burn through non-exotic forms of body armor.

• Mercenary Support Network: Jeriah has been in the private security business long enough to have the kinds of contacts who can get you the things you need to participate in a war, be it transportation, ordinance or intelligence. These services are strictly limited to logistics and intelligence support and do not extend to things as grandiose as providing combat vehicles. (They can arrange an off road car at best. Anything faster and it's more Jeriah catching a lift than him being given a vehicle).

Flaws

• Ad Hoc Education: Jeriah is a fairly good hand when it comes to robotics and cybernetics - not an expert but the next best thing to one - however he doesn't have a lot of the theory that comes with a formal education and it turns out that's important. He doesn't have the credentials either, which means makes dealings with academia or lab types a lot more difficult than they need to be.

• Electronic Access: One disadvantage of being online in the way that Jeriah is, is that people can find him. It'd take some doing but a sufficiently skilled hacker could certainly attempt to break into his network and do things like deny him access to his drones, or worse, attempt to injure him with feedback or data overloads.

• Marked Man: Walking around with a bunch of AIM developed cybernetics that they had been GOING to sell to Genosha is not a good way to endear oneself to either AIM or Genosha. Neither like him and at least one of them is very inclined to try to capture or kill him, and regularly tries to do so.

• Unsubtle: The subdermal armor and disruption fields that Jeriah uses to protect himself are… noticeable. They cause deep purple patterns to appear on his skin and a similarly colored haze to surround him. Plus they light up like a Christmas tree on anything observing IR or microwave spectrums.

• Jury Rigged: Jeriah's hardware was never designed to handle what it has been modified to handle and it doesn't do it very well. He can safely have 3 connections open - that's to anything. Drones, computers, what have you. Beyond that connectivity increasingly degrades, causing all of his processes to lag - in combat that often means his drones are slow to respond or may glitch out into autonomous mode and need a reset to get back. Exceeding 3 connections also often triggers mild feedback - usually the migraines. The absolute limit is 6 connections. Any more than that and something is going to crash and require a full cold restart to get back.

• Feedback Loop: Significant damage to his drones can actually trigger bioelectric feedback in his own body, causing burns and blood vessel ruptures. Less significant damage, or network strain, can still cause migraines or in some rare cases, blackouts.

• Information Overload: Jeriah's netware implants and drones were never designed for him to control so many simultaneously and taxing them also taxes Jeriah. He's in a constant haze of data being fed him from the general network which makes him distractible and when actively being fed data by an open connection this effect increases. Operating beyond his safe limit, he might find portions of his brain taken over by running processes - making remembering or concentrating difficult, or giving him mild synesthesia. Finally there is a chance that bits of his consciousness might 'slip' into the drones, making them behave wildly erratically or causing Jeriah to get 'lost' in his own network for a short but possibly critical period.

• Subconscious Link: London's subconscious bleeds out through his entire network even with no 'active' connections open and as a consequence low to mid level routines in both his implants and drones can behave unpredictably. Both are prone to being influenced by his emotional state (connections and drones becoming sluggish when he is depressed, for example). More worrisome, the drones in particular have a tendency to execute uncoded behaviors when in autonomous mode, which can cause them to wander off without orders, hesitate in executing their programming or in the case of the dog drones - actually act like dogs (because he increasingly thinks of them as dogs). Any of these issues can throw a plan off the rails or provoke unwanted attention or trouble.
