Background

Hod's story begins when he was born. Granted everyone's story begins when they were born but most people don't have a prophecy about them killing their twin brother and bringing about the destruction of everything important. As one imagines, this had an impact on young Hod. While his twin brother was all light and sunshine and the adorable love of puppy dogs, Hod was born blind and cold to the touch, wreathed in shadows. Between his natural wall flower proclivities and the nature of his godhood, Hod was not well liked. Despite his hard won skill at arms and general ability to be useful despite his handicap, Hod was slowly ostracizes by all of the Aesir save Baldur. This became official when, unable to see a way out of the prophecy after 5 centuries, even with the All Sight, Odin cursed Hod and banished him to Midgard striping him of as much of his natural Asgardian might as he could, hoping against hope that the savage Realm would see Hod dead.

It did not work. For 2500 years Hod has walked Midgard, always in the fringes of the greatest societies, always just outside of grand events. As if drawn to them without knowing but never able to be a piece of them in whole. His time on Midgard while long and arduous, has not been without reward. He has witnessed wonders and horrors indescribable and to numerous to count, he has learned the ways of mortal man and become the most human of the Aesir. Now the Aesir walk Midgard in numbers they never have before, and a world that was once immense in it's mystery, is small and crowded. What was once a dangerous but comfortable Realm in which to enjoy exile, has become one of growing fear for Hod. Because as the Aesir crowd about, he fears the time of prophecy cannot be far removed and with it, his part in Ragnarok.

Powers

Aesir

Hod is one of the Asgardian gods and had the superhuman physiology common to them all… until it was mostly stripped from him. While physically superior to a human, he is now only slightly stronger/faster/tougher then a human athlete of peak conditioning.

Allspeak

Hod can speak and understand all languages in the Nine Realms, regardless of what race or species speaks them, and while his twin brother can use this to communicate with animals, Hod only seems to have a connection with those of a nocturnal persuasion.

Durability

Hod is a shadow of his former self and while once a paragon of Aesir toughness, he is now down graded from bullet proof to more… bullet resistant.

Healing

Hod heals /slightly/ faster then a human being in peak condition, fast enough to be superhuman, but only just.

Longevity

While not immortal, Hod ages at an extremely slow pace. Though he still looks young, he was born on the summer solstice thousands of years ago.

Speed

Hod's reflexes are only barely faster then an exceptional human being's would be, his running sprint speed much the same. In Aesir terms he may as well be one of the mortals.

Stamina

Hod, to his eternal shame, must sleep every day and eat regularly or suffer the common mortal side effects. Sure, it's only a couple hours nap and a single small meal every day, but still. And to think, he gets winded if he sprints full tilt for more then five miles. WINDED!

Strength

Hod is weaker then any of the Aesir in his current state, barely able to lift 5 tons.

Senses

Being both Aesir, and blind, Hod's remaining senses are unusually acute. Superhuman certainly, though not to the level of a great many sense enhanced beings living in the world.

Cryokinesis

While no longer as tough as he was before his banishment, not even Odin can strip a god of their nature entirely. Hod suffers no ill effects from temperature extremes, be they hot or cold, in any way. Once he could command the ice and the wind, but at best he can now chill his drinks with a touch and make people shiver with his passing.

Umbrakinesis

Hod is blind, except in the dark. In direct reverse proportion to most anyone else, the darker the place he is in, the better Hod can see. In a place without light entirely his eyesight is as great as Heimdall's himself. The shadows protect their master, masking his passing when he desires it and hiding him from even mystical prying eyes.

Knowledge of Hidden Paths

Hod knows the way to anywhere. Any. Where. Other Aesir may depend on the Bifrost and Heimdall to take them from one realm to another, but Hod does not. He knows the way to all places from all places. He cannot /control/ these ways, but they cannot hide from him and he can walk them all. From secret passages inside a mansion to the magical roads through the hells themselves to the most clandestine of black ops bases, Hod knows the Ways.

Forbidden Sight

Perhaps it is his knowledge of the Ways, or maybe his affinity for the Dark, whatever the reason Hod is occasionally struck with visions of future events or perhaps events taking place far away. He has no control of these visions and while accurate they may not always tell the truth.

Skills

Warrior

Once upon a time, Hod was a Prince of the Aesir, a force of great power and despite his infirmity, of respect. Trained in tandem with his twin brother, Hod's favor for his father's weapon of choice, the spear, was well received. He is an excellent combatant even by the standards of the Aesir, an equal to Baldur's sword skill, if only with a different weapon.

Stealth

While his brother shines in the light, Hod prefers to go unnoticed. This isn't so much a matter of ninja assassiny warrior stuff as it is more social wall flower. He is a master of the simple art of not being noticed. Naturally quiet, unobtrusive, everything about him quietly mutters 'pay no attention to me' whereever he goes.

Blind Sight

Having been blind from birth, Hod has looooooooong since mastered the art of living with his disability. Using his enhanced sense to navigate the world around him, Hod is remarkably adept at appearing sighted or even almost prescient among those that might expect him to be otherwise.

Wanderer

There are a great many skills small and large, that are required when living in the world and not having any place to call home. Hod has mastered them all. There is no place he cannot go and blend in, no culture he's not 'seen', no rules of society he can't mimic perfectly. He blends in well everywhere.

Advantages

Spear

Shaped to favor Odin's own spear, Hod's is a magical artifact that takes after him. A silvered rune covered angled head with crossguard on a shaft of ebony ending in a silvered butt spike, it's a work of great magic. Able to slice cleanly through all metals not 'exotic' in nature, unbreakable, it collapses down into a mundane appearing walking stick with a thought and can be used to dim the lights of any light not supernatural in origin… and the sun. The sun is also immune.

Son of Odin

It should be good to be a Prince, but for Hod it is not. While still /technically/ on the very short list of heirs to the throne of Asgard, Hod's title will open doors that would be closed to anyone not so blessed.

God of Darkness

While his brother rocks a wonderful beloved status amongst the norms, Hod has… other allies. Incorrectly assumed to be evil or at least indifferent, Hod seems unable to shake the reputation of a ne're do well, and as such is almost universally welcome in the places and company that heroes and good guys are generally not.

Flaws

Blind

Hod has been blind since he was born. Not a little, completely. Sure there are mystical edges and cants to his blindness, but he was no less born in darkness. While he's managed to overcome the majority of obvious signs that mark the blind, there will always be things Hod can never do.

Ragnarok

It has been foreseen, Hod shall slay his twin brother and bring about the end of all the gods. This is a fate neither can deny nor escape. The date and time are unknown, but it matters little, the knowledge that this fate awaits him, haunts the God of Winter.

Exile

Due to the Prophecy that names Baldur's murderer, Hod is treated poorly by the other Aesir. Odin exiled him, claiming it was for the protection of all, this exile has striped him of his physical might, removed him from the protections of Asgard as a whole, and left him adrift in a cruel world of enemies that know the value of an Asgardian Prince, especially a weakened one. With none to call on for assistance, he wanders the Realms utterly alone.
