Background

Born in a rural part of Tohoku, the northern region of the main island of Japan, Hisako discovered that she was a mutant when she reflexively used her powers to protect herself and a friend during a fire at their school. Between widespread prejudice against mutants both locally and nationally, and rising tensions around the world between normal humans and superpowered individuals, Hisako's parents grew increasingly worried about her safety; their fears were proven when Hisako was abducted by a small group of anti-mutant extremists.
Fortunately, Charles Xavier learned of Hisako's existence and peril, and the X-Men came to her rescue, along with an invitation to enroll at the Institute. While Hisako went through an initial phase of fearing her own powers, her training with Professor X and the senior X-Men enabled her to overcome her fear and truly make her powers her own, quickly establishing herself as a reliable fighter when necessary. She's recently been promoted to a full member of the X-Men, although she feels like she has yet to really prove herself in the field.

Powers

• Psionic Exo-Armor: Hisako's mutant talent allows her to project a quasi-telekinetic field around herself, in the form of an articulated suit of armor. This armor normally surrounds her body entirely, and she can scale up its size from a relatively close fit to a gigantic form, with her actual body suspended within the torso. The armor provides her with several specific abilities:
• Enhanced Durability: As might be expected, Hisako's armor provides superhuman durability and defense against a wide range of attacks and other hazards, such as bullets, mortars, explosives, particle beams, plasma, thrown cars or trucks, extreme heat, and most forms of energy attacks.
• Enhanced Strength: Hisako's armor also manifests superhuman strength and speed, enabling her to throw cars or flip tanks even at a near-human size scale. Scaling up (see below) amplifies her strength further, so that she can feasibly exchange punches with Sentinels if the need arises.
• Size Shifting: Hisako is able to increase her armor's size, whether to fight larger-than-human threats or just to give her body a wider buffer within the armor. The larger she's projecting her armor, though, the shorter a time she can sustain it. Her maximum limit at this time appears to be around skyscraper size, when she's had to battle commensurately colossal enemies, but she has been unable to sustain that size any longer than three minutes.

Skills

• Drawing: In the course of her education at the Xavier Institute, Hisako has honed her artistic skills and her eye for detail. Organic shapes are still tricky for her, but buildings and other structures are relatively easy (albeit painstaking) for her to render on paper.
• Languages: Hisako is a native speaker of Japanese, and is nearly as fluent in English. She's learned a smattering of Spanish and French, as well, but she has trouble keeping up a conversation unassisted in either.

Advantages

• Xavier Institute (Student): Hisako is currently a student in good standing at the Xavier Institute, providing her with a safe place to live while she's working on a two-year college degree. (This technically extends to her membership in the X-Men, as well.)

Flaws

• Weaknesses: While Hisako's armor protects her from a great deal, it does have two notable weaknesses. First, since the armor has to let light through within and around the visible spectrum (or she wouldn't be able to see), lasers are capable of passing through the armor and wounding her physical body. Second, adamantium has proven capable of piercing her armor's protection; however, flesh and blood to which the blade (or claw) is attached will NOT pass through. In short, if the distance between the armor and her skin is greater than the length of the claw or blade, it still won't hurt her.
• Mutant: With her own mutant powers developing during a period of heightened tension between "normal" humans and super-powered individuals, Hisako is acutely conscious of her status as a mutant. If accused of being a mutant, she'll attempt to deflect the question rather than lie outright, but she remembers the discrimination she faced in Japan before her parents enrolled her at the Xavier Institute, and it's still a soft spot for her emotionally.
• Student: Hisako is still on a student visa to remain in the United States, and remains conscious of the more immediate need to remain in good standing at the Xavier Institute to keep living there. While she's a legal adult for most purposes, she is not quite fully independent.
• Agoraphilia: Whether due to her past captivity, or merely a subconscious effect of her powers, Hisako prefers large, open areas to confined spaces.
