Background

With the fall of Camelot and the death of Arthur and disappearance of Merlin, the Kingdom of Britain fragmented back into individual kingdoms. One of these was ruled by a man who was as skilled with magic as he was with a sword and his land prospered under his rule. His son and heir however, while a good man, was nowhere near as skilled with either and he worried about the fate of his kingdom after his death. And so he began what would be his greatest magic yet.
Over the next several years, he forged magical artifacts that would help ensure his son would be able to defend the kingdom. But the greatest of these, and the last, were two magical blades: one to battle the physical and one the ephemeral. Into these blades, he tied all he was: his magic, his knowledge, his skill. Though not his soul. That was a sacrifice he was not willing to make. Such a feat required more power than he had though so he called upon a powerful spirit to help him. A spirit of protection. An angel. The pact was made: in return for its help, the blades would be dedicated to the protection of all that is Good and would never be able to be turned to an evil purpose.
And so it was done. Begun exactly one year before, the blades were finished on the summer solstice. His son and apprentice took the red hot metal and reluctantly quenched them with the blood of his king and father by plunging them into his body while the angel transferred the essence of who and what he was into them. It was done. And as promised, the king's knowledge and skill was contained in the weapons and guided the hand of the wielder. The artifacts passed down from one person to another, sometimes the next in line for the throne, sometimes not but always a direct descendant. Over the years, the Kingdom of Powys disappeared but not the line and their dedication to the protection of the land and people continued regardless of who the ruler was. Ownership of Powys Castle stayed with their line even unto this day when the family name is Grey. Despite the name change, they can still trace their blood directly back to the king who fought alongside Arthur.
Dylan is the latest recipient of the family's heritage having been given the artifacts by his grandfather who inherited them after his own father was killed during WWII. Deciding it was time to pass them on, he felt his son would be too busy with the duties of being the Earl of Powis and handed them over to his grandson instead. Dylan took over his grandfather's duties with MI-13 but the increasingly global events prompted them to lend him to SHIELD and WAND where he could protect Britain by protecting the world. Seeing the logic of this, Dylan agreed.

Powers

• Magic: Dylan has the gift of magic though he's not going to be throwing any spells around. His abilities lie in ritual, specifically artificing. While he can do many or most of what other mages can do, it's by creating items capable of doing them and that takes time, effort and the proper tools. The simplest ad hoc item might take a day. A masterpiece of magic could take a year. Like other mages, he is able to detect magic and the supernatural in his immediate vicinity though larger disturbances can be picked up from further away.

Skills

• Artificing: Dylan is extremely skilled at smithing weapons, armor, and jewelry among other things. He can add magic to items he's crafted and also to those that have already been made though it does require very fine craftsmanship. Naturally, it requires the proper tools and sufficient times.
• Combat: Dylan's grandfather had a pretty good idea of who would succeed him so started training Dylan relatively early. Knowing exactly what knowledge the boy would get once he took possession of the swords, he gave him the basics of melee combat and bows just to prime him for later. It was firearms and hand to hand that he concentrated on teaching him which MI-13 then expanded on as has SHIELD. He's certainly skilled at hand to hand and using firearms but it's medieval weapons where his expertise lies.
• History: Dylan is, for all intents and purposes, an expert in the history of what is now known as Wales from the time of Rome through the fall of Camelot and the succeeding years as he has his ancestor's memories of living that time period. A bit less expertly, through more normal stydy, he's expanded on that knowledge to include all of British history, especially as it relates to its rulership and foreign relations.
• Languages: In addition to English, Dylan is fluent in Old Brythonic, Latin and Welsh.
• Leadership Strategy Tactics: Raising an army, fielding an army, winning with your army. Now they're the responsibilities of generals. They used to be the responsibilities of kings and other nobles. Many years of battles and warfare are all in his head, both the winning tactics and the losing.
• Myth and Magic: Dylan has extensive knowledge of occultism in theory and practice as well as the lore of supernatural creatures and the various pantheons. Unsurprisingly, he's an expert when it involves the British Isles, is strong when it involves Europe, begins to taper off when it involves those who've had contact with Europe over the years (such as the Egyptians and their contact with Rome) and weakest to nonexistent with all others, notably Asia, the Americas, And Africa.
• The Noble Package: Being the son of an Earl and having the memories of a king, Dylan's familiar with all those things that are taught to nobles growing up (in both centuries). Etiquette, riding, heraldry, politics, etc.

Advantages

• The Blades of Powys: A sword and dagger, they share certain similar characteristics. Both are highly enchanted and nearly indestructible. Both are unable to be used to further the cause of Evil and both are bound to Dylan's bloodline, turning in the hand of someone trying to wield them who isn't. Both have sheaths that, when he's not in armor, are invisible and intangible except to his hand and once the weapon is drawn.
• The Grey Blade: This is an enchanted weapon that can cut through almost anything except for some of the modern special alloys and anything protected by a stronger enchantment. While it normally looks like a longsword, it can take the form of any melee weapon that the wielder desires. Aside from the length of the weapon, there's little difference between forms but sometimes bashing something is more effective than slashing. Should it come within a hundred feet of supernatural evil, it will burst into holy flame.
• Soul's Bite: This dagger's blade is dull and does nothing against those things that are physical, passing through them harmlessly. Instead, it is enchanted to affect the non-physical. It can cut through magic and wards, souls, and even space. It can, among other things, carve a doorway to anywhere Dylan has been including other planes and dimensions, sever an astral cord or a possessing entity from its host, or cut away the corruption in someone's soul. When held before him, it can 'cut' through energy coming at him, sending it instead to either side. When magic is present within a hundred feet, it glows with a warm, golden light.
• ePhone: This is an enchanted smart phone that is powered by energy from ley lines. Only in a magically dead area does it need to run off the battery. Likewise, it transmits voice and data via ley line first and network second. It's not part of any specific network but uses whichever is strongest as needed. An electricity elemental he's named Taliesin inhabits the phone and is able to call up all functions and apps on the phone in response to his voice instructions. It serves willingly as it draws all the power it can want from the ley lines via the phone. Aside from the usual functions of a smart phone, it has several arcane uses.
• Detecting Magic: The phone can pinpoint all sources of magic within 25 miles by showing them on Google Maps, either on the display or by projecting a three dimensional image. Within 1 mile of the source, the location becomes exact. The type of magic can be filtered and is color coded. Some of the types of magic include white, black, elemental, and spirit. If it's supernatural as well, the marker flashes.
• Scrying: The phone can also be used to find a person or thing. It requires a picture on the phone and can locate the target within 25 miles, becoming more accurate the closer it gets. The range expands to the entire world if the Law of Contagion is in effect such as with hair or blood. In this situation, the sample must be photographed by the phone, disappearing as its essence is transferred to the picture and is destroyed. The location will then appear on Google Maps, again becoming more accurate the closer one gets.
• Phone of Holding: Another, very useful function, is that by taking a picture of something (it doesn't work on anything living or larger than a car), that item disappears and is stored on the phone as a jpg. The process can then be reversed when he wishes it.
• Golden Torc: Radiating strong magic, eight ropes of gold have been plaited together to form a solid arc of about 300 degrees. The terminals at each end are that of lion heads facing each other in profile with small rubies serving as the eyes. While there's a bit of a gap between the two ends, it it obviously two small to get over Dylan's head. Fortunately, the magic allows the torc to widen or shrink so it may be passed from one owner to another. The main function though is that of protection. When Dylan wills it, lightly golden tinged armor spills down from the torc. A chain hauberk is covered by a golden surcoat that has a red rampant lion on the front. Chain chausses and armored boots as well as gauntlets and a helm complete the set of armor though he can control just which pieces appear. The armor is enchanted to resist blows up to that of a .50 caliber rifle and the torc itself provides protection against magical attacks that affects his mind such as beguilement and illusion. When the armor appears, so too do his weapons and their sheaths.
• Hengroen: Hengroen is the name of King Arthur's stallion. It is also the name of Dylan's enchanted 1949 Vincent Black Shadow. The motorcycle is powered by a willing minor fire elemental so doesn't require any petrol though he periodically rewards it by dropping some charcoal into the no longer used fuel tank. Sometimes he'll treat it with some mesquite chips though tries not to spoil it. The bike will remain upright whether in use or not so is impossible to wipe out though it can be deliberately done, say to slide under a truck. It would then right itself automatically. It has a magical field of protection surrounding it which shelters its riders from the wind and can withstand impacts up to a .50 caliber rifle and indirect explosions such as from grenades. Thanks to the elemental, fire is no hazard to it at all. Its performance has also been enhanced, almost doubling its speed up to a maximum of 235 mph while still being able to corner effortlessly. The fire elemental is able to control the bike by itself and is able to respond to Dylan's voice instructions so long as it's in earshot.
• Signet Ring: The enchanted signet ring of the Kingdom of Powys (not to be confused with the Earldom of Powis). Aside from the normal function of sealing letters, when pressed against a door or wall it wards the room until sunrise, sunset or someone leaves, whichever comes first. All doors and windows are sealed, the wards needing to be mystically broken before someone can enter. The room and everyone in it are proof against magical scrying and mundane eavesdropping. To all outward appearances, the room is empty.
• MI-13 / SHIELD / WAND: Dylan's an agent with MI-13 and currently on loan to SHIELD's magic department WAND. This gives him access to cutting edge technology and weapons, in depth classified information, and other agents to call upon as required by his assignments.
• Noble: Being the eldest son of an Earl confers certain perks, not the least of which is wealth. Unlike some families with titles, his actually has money and land and they don't need to rent out their castle for income. He's known among upper class circles and the Queen knows his name. This tends to get good seats at the theatre and restaurants. Of course, this mostly applies to Britain and he's rarely in Britain lately.
• Workshop: Castle Powis is fully equipped with a working forge and all the tools needed to craft and modify items.

Flaws

• Echoes From The Past: It's not easy being a king, especially not after the High King is killed and his kingdom disintegrates, not when you have uneasy alliances with neighboring kingdoms and have definite enemies on the border. It takes a very strong person, a very willful person. It's really not easy having that person in your head, even if it's only their memories. Mostly just their memories.
• Magical Beacon: Dylan's a mage and lots of things can pick up the aura of magic that he gives off. But with all his artifacts, he's like a lighthouse during the new moon.
• Multiple Responsibilities: There are a lot of different directions that Dylan can get pulled in. First, he's the son of an Earl and while his father is understanding about his other responsibilities, there are family obligations and certain duties he needs to take care of as the heir. Then there's SHIELD. As an agent, he definitely needs to consider the missions a priority. And sure, MI-13 is the one who came up with the idea of his lateral transfer to SHIELD, but they occasionally would like him to look into this or that. And then there's his duty to Britain, passed down to him over the centuries. He sometimes comes upon something he decides he needs to do that doesn't have official sanction. And possibly might not be officially sanctioned.
