Background

Carol Danvers was born in Boston, the oldest of three children. Her father was a very staunch traditionalist, who wanted Carol to work on becoming a housewife instead of advancing her own career in college. In rebellion, Carol enlisted as soon as she graduated from high school, joining the Air Force. After graduating from college, she was seconded over to the CIA thanks to her aptitude with tactics and covert operations. Eventually, she gained the attention of SHIELD, which picked her up from the CIA and delegated her over to monitoring NASA operations, fearing alien interference with the space program.

While working as a NASA liaison on behalf of SHIELD, she did discover proof of suspected alien infiltration by a race that called themselves the Kree. Surprising them as they were working on an alien artifact that was discovered near Roswell, the artifact exploded, splicing her DNA with that of the Kree. Confused and disoriented, Carol suddenly realized that she now had superhuman powers. SHIELD, after helping her train her powers, forwarded her over to the Avengers, and she worked with them for several years. When the United States started forcing mutants to register in 2009, Carol was furious, and left Earth for outer space, particularly to learn more about the Kree. Just recently, she came back to Earth, seeing everything that has changed in the decade that she's been gone.

Powers

Energy Absorption: The core of Carol's powers are based on absorbing and metabolizing energy. She can use this to recover from injuries far more rapidly than a normal human, as well as preventing damage from energy blasts or the like. She can also use absorbed energy to boost her other powers.

Alien Physiology: Due to her hybrid Kree-Human DNA, Carol is unaffected by most diseases. In addition, she is unfazed by extreme environments, and can survive in the vacuum of space indefinitely.

Energy Blast: Carol is able to fire powerful energy blasts, capable of leveling a tank. If she absorbs enough energy, they can be even more devastating, to the point of blasts that can level a city block.

Super Strength: Carol is able to lift up to 50 tons.

Durability: Carol is highly resistant to injuries, able to withstand high impact weaponry without harm.

Flight: Carol can fly at speeds up to Mach 2 with exceptional maneuverability in atmosphere. In space, she is capable of far greater speeds (Mach 6) without the hinderance of an atmosphere. Additionally, her reflexes are enhanced to allow her to react while traveling at that speed.

Skills

Athletics: Carol is a skilled athlete even without her powers.

Combat Training: Carol has basic SHIELD combat training, and is very skilled in hand to hand combat. Additionally, she has an instinctive knowledge of Kree weapons and fighting techniques.

Superspy: In addition to combat training, Carol is familiar with a variety of covert operations from her time working with SHIELD.

Bureaucracy: Having worked for the government in one form or another since she was 18, she is an expert at manipulating red tape to her own benefit.

Pilot: Carol is a highly skilled pilot, able to fly pretty much any machine that's been made by either humans or Kree, though the latter is more through instinct.

Languages: Carol is fluent in English, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, and Kree.

Advantages

SHIELD: Even though she's not a currently active agent, Carol Danvers was a highly decorated agent of SHIELD, and still has contacts and ties to the organization. Though any help she might get would likely have to be repaid in kind, of course…

Avengers: Carol, before her exodus from Earth, was a member of the Avengers. With her recent return from outer space, she can likely call upon them for assistance (or vice versa).

Flaws

Alcoholic: It took some time to admit it, but Carol is an alcoholic. Prior to going to outer space, she was going to AA meetings regularly. Though they don't have groups in the Kree Empire, there was also far less temptation up there too.

Driven: Carol is guided by a strong sense of "doing the right thing" and seeing that others live up to those ideals as well. She is very patriotic and devoted to her work, which can make it hard when the government doesn't live up to her faith in it. This was a big reason for her leaving Earth in the first place.

Overload: Carol's powers are potent, but somewhat unstable. If she absorbs too much energy, it can possibly go out of her control, causing her to emit harmful blasts at those around her at random. Too much power behind held in could possibly cause her to explode like a nuclear detonation, causing massive damage to both herself and the surrounding area.
