Background

Carin and her older sister had a fairly normal life growing up. Other than her obvious snow white skin, Carin demonstrated no other odd powers or abilities as a child, and loved to play baseball and run around with her sister and father, with whom she was very close. However, her father eventually left her mother, and her mother's new boyfriend and their eventual stepfather proved to be abusive to their mother and both girls. One night when their stepfather was beating their mother, Carin ran out of the house to the police station, her speed powers manifesting for the first time.
Even then it was too late; by the time she made it back to the house before the police arrived, her mother was dead, and her older syster manifested her own powers, throwing a comb unerringly through her stepfather's heart to kill him. The girls were split up, with Cassandra entering juvenile detention while Carin was put in the foster system. Her odd looks and barely controlled speed powers drew the wrong sort of attention, with a local bully holding her down when she was a young teen and forceably tattooing a large green lightning bolt over the right side of her face.
Carin's poor luck continued when AIM learned of her existence, and used their influence to take her from her foster home to be turned into a cyborg soldier. She was brainwashed, her memories supressed in preparation for her personality being replaced by obedience to AIM. Before the final procedures could be initiated, however, a sympathetic scientist disabled the tracking and control elements of Carin's implants and assisted in her escape. Now she's alone and running scared, trying to stay one step ahead of the AIM's capture squads…one led by her own brainwashed sister.

Powers

• Superhuman Speed: Carin can sustain speeds of up to Mach 1 (750 MPH or above the speed of sound) for hours, and has been clocked at a maximum of 3300 MPH (just under Mach 5) though she cannot sustain that for more than a brief sprint. Her best sustainable cruising speed is Mach 3, which she can maintain for about fifteen minutes at a time. Her upper limit has not been confirmed due to Carin's reluctance to max out her speed for fear of the damage she might cause. Her reflexes and ability to process sensory input are similarly enhanced, allowing her to easily follow even rapid motions accurately, as well as reacting at the same speed.

Skills

• Combat Training: While Carin is hardly an aggressive fighter, she has been trained by AIM to be a competent hand-to-hand fighter, using mixed martial arts aimed at quickly and efficiently disabling an opponent. Carin herself however has specialized more in breaking locks and evading attacks, which works better with her speed and personality.
• Running: Carin is a practiced track and field athlete and knows how to put the most into her sprints and long distance running. Her superspeed has caused her to further learn how to start, stop, jump, and turn when moving at rapid speed and how to overcome the problems associated with each.

Advantages

• Brain Box: This implant was installed by AIM to help Carin control her powers by enhancing her reaction time and ability to process sensory input when moving at high speeds. It incorporates a HUD and comm system that can be used to provide additional data when tied into an appropriate communication network and lets Carin communicate subvocally.
• Kevlar Implants: Another modification made to Carin by AIM was implanting kevlar under her skin to help with friction burns. In practice, it also makes her resistant to small arms fire, impacts, and slashing damage, but not invulnerable.

Flaws

• Abused: Carin's stepfather was an alcoholic who physically and emotionally abused his stepdaughters, regularly insulting or striking them. Carin in particular was targeted due to her striking snow white skin. Like many teens in her position, Carin felt ashamed of what happened and tried to hide her physical injuries as a result. She suffers from low self esteem, as well as feeling isolated after being put in the foster system.
• Experimental Subject: AIM installed the Brain Box in Carin's head in order to turn her into one of their cyborg soldiers, by wiping her personality and implanting a more amoral and obedient one. While she was able to escape before the process was complete, AIM still considers a valuable asset in need of being reacquired.
• Memory Loss: The experiments on Carin supressed most of her memories of her earlier life. She remembers fragements or brief vignettes; the memories are still there, but she has difficulty accessing them.
• Mutant: Carin is a visible mutant and suffers from the same public hatred and poor treatement aimed at mutants in general by some elements of society.
• Run Away: Carin runs from her problems. While she's not a coward, she is not enormously brave either and tends to respond to fight or flight threats by fleeing.
• Tattoo: When she was a foster child, the resident bully forceably gave Carin the large and obvious tattoo of a green lightning bolt over the right side of her face. It makes her easy to identify and requires effort to hide.
