Background

Shoshoni Wyoming doesn't have a lot to offer a young man. With a population averaging 600, the town on the border of the Winder River Indian Reservation was both small and poor. While Brandon has some Shoshone blood, it's not enough to make him part of the tribe and he never really felt a conenction to them. Being the eldest of six children, it's probably not surprising that he joined the Army as soon as he turned 18. They made him a Cavalry Scout and sent him to Afghanistan where he earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star in his first tour. Now a Sergeant, he reenlisted for a second tour but he was only months into it when everything changed.
His squad was on patrol when his Humvee hit an EFP. It was over before he even knew it happened. The armored Humvee was completely destroyed, his friends killed, and the rest of the patrol was under fire. He doesn't remember anything about what happened but after it was all over, the other soldiers reported a translucent suit of power armor fighting the enemy forces and making short work of them. Once the fighting was over, it turned into Brandon and collapsed, unconscious.
It turns out he was a mutant and his latent powers activated to save his life and he was sent to a Top Secret installation responsible for the training of powered soldiers. For the next year, they trained him to use his powers and he was transferred to Special Forces. Brandon spent the remainder of his second tour being sent into hot spots that normal forces weren't equipped to handle. But one can only handle so much stress, so much pressure, so much death. He'd seen too many people die. Too many friends, too many civilians, even too many enemies, many of whom he was responsible for. When his second tour of duty was up, he mustered out as a Sergeant First Class.
He went home. But if he didn't fit in Shoshoni eight years ago, he definitely didn't fit there after everything that happened. He stayed just long enough to rest and reunite with his parents and siblings before setting out to wander the US and see where he could fit in. For him, as it seems to for so many, that place ended up being New York City. For the moment.

Powers

• Psychic Construct Transformation: Brandon has the mutant ability to turn into constructs made of pure psychic energy. They can range in size from about three feet high to twelve feet. They take the form of mechanical constructs such as a suit of power armor, a robotic animal, or even a giant robot. While in these forms, he registers as a psychic phenomenon but not as a life form, gives off no heat, has no need to eat, breath, or sleep. He's immune to the extreme environments that can be found the surface of the planet such as normal fire, electricity or temperatures, at the bottom of the ocean, or in space. He's also resistant to most telepathic assaults aside from those by powerful telepaths and/or those highly trained. The constructs are translucent providing a certain natural camouflage, especially at night.
• The exact forms and capabilities of the constructs are variable but they do fall within certain ranges. The fastest construct can fly at Mach 2 while one that is land bound can run up to 250 mph. The weakest construct can toss around something weighing about a ton while the largest, strongest ones can manage 30 tons. Generally speaking, they can withstand half again as much damage as they are capable of dishing out. Some of the constructs are equipped with ranged weapons, the weakest of which can punch through steel at a distance of several hundred feet while the most powerful can fire off the equivalent of a shell fired from a MK 45 ship mounted cannon at a range of 2 miles. His power being a variety of telekinesis, all damage is concussive in nature. The largest, most powerful construct can only be maintained two hours before he involuntarily changes back but most forms can be sustained for twelve.
• Despite the technological form of the constructs, they are not capable of any high tech sensory abilities though as Brandon is, literally, the construct, he does have 360 degree 'vision'. While in the form of a construct, he can project his thoughts directly into the minds of up to a dozen people at a distance of up to half a mile. Similarly, he can read the thoughts of the same number of people at the same distance but only surface thoughts.

Skills

• Army Training: Having been trained as first a Cavalry Scout and then as Special Forces, Brandon's extremely skilled at hand to hand combat. He's not as expert as some but he's damn good and just a fit as the best of them, able to run for miles and function on little sleep. He's skilled with the standard military weapons all soldiers receive as well as heavy vehicle mounted weapons and grenade launchers. He's a trained scout, can survey terrain, call in airstrikes, and pinpoint a structure's weak points. He's also got rappelling, SCUBA diving, and HALO parachuting under his belt.
• Farming: Brandon's from a farming family. He knows about farming from the bottom up.
• Guitar: He's an amateur musician. It passes the time.
• Languages: In addition to English, Brandon can speak Spanish and Farsi though he's not fluent. He's less skilled with Arabic and Pashto and also knows some basic words of Shoshone. He can though curse in it almost fluently.
• Riding: Horses. He can.
• Vehicles: Brandon's a skilled driver with both automatics and manuals. Aside from civilian vehicles and heavy farming equipment such as tractors, he can dive military vehicles including trucks. And while he's driven a Bradley, he doesn't have much experience with them.

Advantages

• It's Who You Know: Having served in the Army for 8 years, Brandon made some strong conections with a lot of people. Bonds of brotherhood and all that. He also has contacts in the department that trained him though he'd be loathe to ever make use of them. He'd prefer to not call himself to their attention if he can help it.
• Steady check: It's not much. It's very not much. But Brandon does get a certain amount from the government for his years of service in the military. It pays for his Starbucks bill at least.

Flaws

• Ghost in the Machine: The constructs don't feel pain. They don't bleed. They have no bones to break. They're pure, psychic energy. Brandon's psychic energy. He is them. And while they take no obvious damage, it's all translated to psychic damage that Brandon feels once he shifts back to human form, voluntarily or otherwise. Headaches are common. Nauseau, nosebleeds. Unconsciousness is not unheard of and once, when he was still learning his limits, a brain bleed. It goes beyond damage though. The construct is a thing without the normal human perspective that most people who are not sociopaths have. When he's a construct, he loses that. People become numbers, equations. The mission takes priority. As a construct, he may make decisions and take actions he wouldn't as a human. This was more common when he was first exploring thje limits of his abilities and he's learned to compensate but the more time straight he spends as one, the easier it is to forget.
• PTSD: He doesn't have it. He'll tell you so himself. Nothing happened to him in Afghanistan, only to others. Almost being blown up by an EFP doesn't count. He didn't even get hurt. Sure, he saw and did things he prefers not to think about, lost friends and comrades, saw things that wakes him up in the middle of the night. He can handle it.
• Reserves: He may have left the Army but he's still in the inactive reserves. While it might be unlikely for most people to be called back to service, he's not most people. More likely, the request would be unofficial (at least to start with) and designed to push all his buttons. They do know him well, after all.
