Background

Betty Brant was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Betty was born on the poor side of the tracks, yet made it her purpose to care for her ailing mother and older brother as best as possible. Sadly, her brother fell into debt with the local underbelly of the city. Unable to pay his gambling debts, their family home was attacked by the gang, leaving Betty's mother in critical condition.

Left with being the last shred of stability for her family, Brant applied, and was accepted for her mothers former position at the Daily Bugle. This position meant that she would have to leave high-school and the family would soon relocate to Queens, New York. Loyal and skillful in her secretarial duties, Brant soon made a place for herself in the bullpen, and has been continually working there ever since.

Quick to take interest in investigative journalism, Betty has began tossing in her cap at submitting publications to both the Bugle, and other media outlets throughout New York. Always written under a pen-name, Brant keeps her anonymity for the time being, for fear of what the real truth would actually do to both herself, and her family, should they lose the only income keeping the mob at bay.

Powers

• Den Mother: Having become more in touch with an older religion, and specifically the Wolf God Fenris, Betty has developed a connection with a pack of spectral wolves. This simple spell is offensive and allows her to attack three targets at a time. This spell is still a novice in power, meaning that the attacks are not constant, nor extremely devastating. These 'wolves' can be commanded as if they were tamed attack dogs, with the limitations of said animal. Once a wolf attacks, their form will fade, requiring another casting to call it back into being.
• Ouroboros: Counter to her offensive spell is one of a more defensive variety. When dealing with an impending attack, Betty is surrounded by a massive serpent swallowing its own tail. This shield can be treated as basic body armor and can be broken if struck enough times. This shield is also personal and cannot be used to protect others. As with all amateur magics, this ability is also timed and will eventually run out, offering its caster fifteen minutes of protection at a time.
• Volva: Divination, wild and unpredictable, has come to Betty's unchecked magical potential. These flashes are rarely, if ever, under the woman's control and can be as brief, or as long, as the vision wills it to be. The only counter to this ability is if Betty honestly attempts to call forth the sight. These methods are long, thought out, and usually require the use of aids to keep her abilities centered enough to perform the ritual at her command.

Skills

• Secret Sleuth: Though Bettys usual place in the bullpen is behind a desk making sure her bosss world keeps running smoothly, her abilities as an up and coming investigative reporter are nothing to scoff at. Keen on puzzles and connecting clues, Betty's observation skills are something to impress. She sometimes even has articles printed under a nom-de-plume.
• Self-Defense: After forging some friendships with some of NYPD's own, and with one Betty has taken it upon herself to learn some self-defense Shes not the best fighter in the world, but she's no shrinking violet, either. Also, thanks to a connection or two of the more vigilante variety, Betty has become skilled with small firearms.
• Your Girl Friday: Loyal to the Daily Bugle, Betty makes sure there is some sense of calm, and streamline production, in the bullpen. From her boss, to her fellow co-workers, Betty is at the ready to make sure that the work day goes as smoothly as possible. Some may even call her the queen of multi-tasking, and she makes a hell of a pot of coffee, too.
• Willpower: Without question, Betty's ability to keep her cool from the hustle and bustle of her day to day activities is commendable. Hard to rattle, her nature remains placid, or stoic, in the face of adversity.
• Alchemy: Betty's new studies have allowed her the ability to find ingredients for, and make, basic potions and ointments of the more traditional variety. None of which would kick over modern forms of medicine, but in a pinch, they could come in handy. At this point, this mixtures are not infused with Magic and do not have any supernatural qualities.
• Rituals: Betty is a student of Loki and Sigyn. As part of her studies, the Fledgling Priestess is being taught a number of rituals to praise, communicate, and call upon the Norse Gods.

Advantages

• The Daily Bugle: The building that saved herself, and her family as a whole, Betty holds steadfast loyalty to the Bugle. With the advantage of a constant source of income, and connections throughout the journalism and media circuits of New York, Brant holds some strong clout in the city. Pretty good for a high school drop-out.
• Dwarven Staff: Betty has been gifted a foci from Fenris and Astryd that was forged by Dwarves 'a very long time ago'. This foci can transform into two shapes, a hairpin when dormant and a staff when active. This staff allows Betty a center for her casting abilities, increasing the likelihood of her spells' success. It should be noted that you can also hit things with it and it won't break.

Flaws

• Voice of Fenris: As a budding Priestess of the Wolf God, Betty has granted the mantle of Voice of Fenris. This title allows her to speak on God's behalf should such a thing be needed, and represent his person when speaking with other Deities. This title, however, does not mean she will be taken with welcoming arms by all those who know it - Not everyone is an ally to the god of destruction and lord of entropy.
• Incantations and Limitations: At this point in time, Betty's magic is woven into being by both gestures and words. Without one, the other does not hold the strength to bring her abilities into being. Should either of these requirements not be met, the spell, regardless of its simplicity, will fail. It should also be noted that due to her novice state in this craft, that larger spells will take their toll on the caster. If given time and room to breathe, she may study to her hearts content. However, should the spell be when in a stressful situation, be pushed to its limits, or take damage (her offensive and defensive spells, for example), Betty will suffer from massive fatigue and mental strain.
• Rending the Veil: Betty's visions, though helpful at times, can also be a drawback. When hit with a vision, some may be vivid or obtuse. Others may be normal, while some may be soul crushingly disturbing. Her visions, regardless of random or purposefully seen, are come what may, choosing how to provide her information as they deem fit. When having said visions, Betty will cease moving and become senseless until the vision is complete.
