Background

At the tender ago of 600, Astryd was tasked with the keeping of a certain individual that had been chained and tethered by the others - in order to stop Ragnarok - including thinning his support base across the Nine Realms.

Over time, however, through continued interactions with the captive, the young Valkyrie developed a different view of the situation and began to believe that the imprisonment was wrong, that he wasn't the monster that others made him out to be and that Fate could be changed.

After petitioning Odin to let the prisoner try, Astryd was exiled from Asgard for daring so. Exiled her to the farthest reaches of the nine realms, her powers not what they had been, no weapons and the Bifrost closed permanently.

She endured though, finding a replacement sword and shield, learning to assimilate with the beings in the dimension she found herself. Over time, Astryd found that she could enter the Underworlds of dead religions and started to map them. It wasn't easy and it wasn't safe, the Underworlds are still home to many spirits and *other* entities. In time, she also found that with care, she could also traverse most of the Underworlds for living religions as well. Eventually, Astryd found her way to Midgard and settled there.

Over time, she found her way to New York and settled there. How long has she been there? Who knows? Long enough to be established in the city.

Powers

Chooser Of The Slain

As a Valkyrie, Astryd has refined her innate power to manipulate the probability of success for combat or competitive situations. She make combat more, or less, deadly and make competition harder, or easier, for specific participants.

Walker Of The Underways

Astryd has learned how to navigate the Underworlds of dead religions. This is often not safe and time can be tricky as it flows differently. She can also walk the Underworlds of many of the living religions but she does so *extremely* carefully and respectfully.

Shepherd Of Souls

Due to her time walking different Underworlds, Astryd is able to escort the souls of the dead to their afterlife, wherever that may be.

Shrouded In Mist

Astryd arrival at a battleground is heralded by the appearance of a thick fog. Astryd has developed this ability to not just rely on her arrival on a battlefield, she can call a thick fog to cover an area of up to 2 miles. The mist can last for up 2 hours.

Invisibility

Astryd is able to turn herself invisible in order to observe what is happening around her. Astryd is able to maintain invisibility for up to 4 hours, after which, she requires 24 hours without using the ability to maintain it for that length again. She can go invisible again during that time but the duration is no more than 15 minutes at a time until she gets to rest for the full time. The invisibility will fool cameras, though it will appear as an artefact on the image but it won't form other more sophisticated forms of technology.

Raven Form

Astryd can take on the form of a Raven. A big, black Raven, that is far larger than your average bird. She can maintain this form for up to 2 days and may talk.

Tower of Babel

Astryd is able to speak every language spoken by every sapient species in the Nine Realms, in their own tongue - and, most importantly, be understood. This only applies to verbal communication, to be able to read and write the language, Astryd still has to work at it.

Nearly Immortal

Astryd ages incredibly slowly, that most would consider her to be immortal.

Asgardian Physiology

Being Asgardian confers Superhuman Strength (able to lift 30 tons), Speed (just above finest peak human athlete), Stamina (can sustain peak capacity for 24 hours before fatiguing), Durability (can withstand military grade weaponry) and an Accelerated Healing Factor (slashed and punctures can heal within hours, bones within days, cannot regenerate limbs/organs).

Astryd has had a lot of time to perfect her swordsmanship and marksmanship. She is proficient in using a sword and staff and military grade small arms at the level of an elite soldier.

Knows A Thing Or Two

Astryd has made Midgard her home and has lived there for a very, very long time. As such, she's learned a lot in that time. She knows how to read and write in the primary languages of any place she's lived in - which is most of Europe, much of Africa and all of the Americas. She's spent time in Asia and has a passing familiarity with Japanese and Chinese. Astryd has a good grounding in the finer points of most of the basic sciences (Math, Chemistry, Biology and Physics) as well as a myriad of trade and outdoor survival skills. Whilst she's not likely to be educated in sciences like highly theoretical physics, computer engineering the like, she knows an awful lot about a lot of things.

Advantages

Wolf Rider

Astryd has a wolf mount, a descendant of the being she guarded and the North Wind. The mount appears when called by her and carries the Valkyrie into battle and across the skies on a blast of icy cold wind (up to 1000 miles at subsonic speeds). The wolf can also fight whilst flying or by her side on the ground (heavy melee weapon). And yes, it's *huge*.

Sword and Shield

Astryds sword and shield have been enchanted to appear as a Nordic hair clip and pin. When she activates the enchantment they revert to their original forms - a romansque arming sword and round Viking shield. These are just normal weapons with no additional properties.

Well Funded

Having been on Midgard for so long, Astryd has amassed a modest wealth.

Contacts In High and Low Places

Astryd has developed many contacts in her journey through the multiverse. She is known to a number of Underworld leaders and guardians. Some even like and respect the wayward Valkyrie.

Flaws

Inhuman Perception

Astryd is not human and her morality standards don't even come close to humans. This can often cause a divide between herself and her chosen human allies as she applies her own morals to a situation - morals of an Asgard and someone, very, very long lived.

In Exile

Exiled from Asgard for championing another, Astryd can't easily return home. Furthermore, other Asgardians may treat her with disdain and those that don't, are they the allies she really wants?

Valkyrie

Having the reputation of escorting souls to the afterlife can be a major downer. Being a Chooser Of The Slain can also make people look askance at her. Astryd's reputation precedes her, she is known in legend and saga for her abilities and those that know of her may fear her, making it difficult for her to find trust.

Astryd has developed many contacts in her journey through the multiverse. She is known to a number of Underworld leaders and guardians some of who consider her ingress and egress as trespass.

Documented

In order to blend in on Midgard, Astryd has a mortal alias. That alias is documented: Social security number, passport, licenses and so forth. It's possible to connect her current alias of Natasha Kerensky to her true self and the fact that she doesn't visibly age assists this. Of course, someone might make some embarrassing mistakes, as well.
