Background

Celerity comes from a struggling middle-class family: herself, her sweetheart brother Steven, and her single mother Temperance. Temperance is a pearl-clutching, fundamentalist kind of woman, prejudiced against LGBT, but especially against mutants. Earth is for humans, and humans shouldn't run at the speed of sound.

Celerity's a smart and hard-working girl, and there's a lot of hard work to do. When they were younger, she helped to raise and look after Steven, and still assumed a responsible 'big sister' role. She works as a delivery girl to help make ends meet. And she studies her ass off — before at high school, now at NYU. She can only afford college because of a good number of scholarships, all of which require she 'maintain good academic standing'. It'd be nice if she could just keep her head down, do the work, and make her landmine of a mother proud.

So of course, about six months ago, Celerity manifested her mutant powers. She's internalised a distressing amount of her mother's diatribes, and did everything she could to bury her powers — though she can't resist using them to do a little good, and to sometimes escape the drudgery of daily life. It's what Steven would do, if he had powers like those.

Powers

• Anon is a mutant, with the following powers derived from her X-gene.
• Speedster: Anon can run and otherwise move at superhuman speeds. Mach 1 (750 mph) is a light jog, which she can maintain almost indefinitely; mach 3 (2300 mph) is serious running, which she can maintain for about four hours at a time; mach 5 (3800 mph) is a dead sprint, which she can maintain for only a few minutes. Coupled with her distortion field, she can run up walls and on liquid surfaces, and her maximum long jump is about 2500 feet. She can also do other things at high speeds, such as changing her clothes in the blink of an eye or tidying a room in a few seconds.
• Distortion Field: Anon's powers partially suspend Newtonian physics in a small area around her. This mostly compensates for the drawbacks of her speed: she can run without friction burn setting her on fire or footstep impacts breaking her legs; she can pull a civilian out of harm's way (or dead freefall) without severe whiplash injuries; and she slightly lessens gravity.
• Super Not-Exactly-Strength: Anon is as strong as an 18-year-old girl with above-average athleticism. However, her distortion field's effect on gravity means she can carry 400-500 pounds (roughly, two average adult men) without significantly slowing, and she can strike with the full force of her momentum. E = mv^2 is a bitch.
• Speedster Brain: Anon's mind is as fast as the rest of her. This is fast enough to see a bullet coming, quickly check behind her to make sure nothing else is in harm's way, dodge away from the bullet, wonder whether she had remembered to put her laundry in the dryer, and then return to normal posture as the bullet passes. It also allows her cram-study sessions to cover weeks of material in a matter of minutes.
• Speed-Healing: Her body also recovers faster than normal. A broken bone fully heals in a matter of days, not months, and other injuries heal in similar time scales.
• Super-Shivering: Vibration tricks keep her warm in extreme cold. This is especially useful given how little costume she can hide under her outerwear.

Skills

• Athletics: Before Anon's powers manifested, Celerity was on the school track and field team. This gives her /technical skill/ with running and jumping, as well as the raw superhuman speed.
• Pure Mathematics: Her greatest skill as a student is in raw calculation, and she's only been aided by developing that speedster brain. She likes to race the university computers to see who finishes processing first, and she often wins.
• Science: She also knows as much science as a high school graduate can be expected to, without being any kind of super-genius. Her recent focus has been in classical mechanics (for the trajectory calculations) and environmental science (required by some of her scholarships).
• Deception: She's a teenage girl raised by a strict single parent. Those experiences well prepared her for the rigours of keeping secrets and living a double life.
• Combat Amateur: Her formal training is limited to YouTube and a couple of other good websites, with a lot of compensation from her fast thinking.
• Projectile Throwing: She's been practicing with small, ordinary projectiles. But while she can calculate "I need X newtons of force at Y angle and release at point Z", she's still learning how to perform with that kind of physical precision.

Advantages

• NYU Student: Her student status provides her with access to professors, databases, libraries, and other university resources; and some handy-dandy concession pricing!
• Scholarships: As long as she maintains good academic standing, Celerity's scholarships cover much of her tuition.
• Delivery Person: A job as a delivery person provides her with some amount of income.
• Under My Roof: She has a home, living with her mother and brother.
• Anon Costume: She almost always wears her costume under her clothes, ready for a quick change.

Flaws

• Family Drama: Celerity's father hasn't been in the picture for years, if ever. Her mother is a conservative fundamentalist who hates and fears mutants, other supers, and anyone substantially different. This produces a lot of tension in Celerity's home life.
• For Steven: Celerity's brother Steven is one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet. It's his loving example that makes her want to be a hero. And protecting him from their mother's unpredictable moods is a major part of why she still lives with family instead of striking out on her own.
• Secret Identity: 'Anon' is short for 'anonymous'. Between her mother's hatred of anything mutant, worries over discrimination from other sources, and of course protecting her family from villainous retaliation, Anon keeps her identity /strictly/ secret.
• Obligations: She has to help at home, or her mother gets angry. She has to work, or she'll get fired and lose income. She has to keep up a good GPA, or she'll lose her scholarships, and thus her enrolment. With all these competing pressure, she /needs/ to be a speedster to keep up.
• Newton Hates Me: The distortion field isn't absolute, and the laws of physics are a harsh mistress. At high speeds, extreme momentum makes it hard to change direction: fast reflexes just means she can see she's going to crash, even if she can't stop it. An attack or a jump landing 'wrong' can cause her injury, even with the distortion field.
