Background

Alison was born in New York to a workaholic father and a free-spirited, and X-Gene mutant, mother. She can barely remember her mother, who left the family home when Alison was very young, due to the conflict of lifestyle with her father. The mother disappearing from her life though she is probably still out there somewhere. Her father devoted himself to his legal work, rising rapidly through the ranks, but also creating a disciplined household where family expectations were a priority. The expectation on Alison, who was showing artistic proclivities like her mother, was that she would go into law. The rigid scholastic expectations wore her down, though there was sympathy from her grandmother, who supported, to a degree, her artistic ambitions.

While performing at a school concert at the age of thirteen, Alison’s mutant abilities dramatically appeared in the form of a light show to accompany the music she was singing to. Everyone thought it was part of the act, but Alison knew better and did her best to learn to control these new aspects to her life. Since it was around the time of the Registration Act, she hid what she could do from everyone; especially her judge father. Alison would continue to perform at her schools when she could, adapting the stage name of Dazzler as further proof the light show was all part of the act.

When it was time to graduate, Alison informed her father that she would not be attending law school, and would instead be living a life of showbusiness. She was immediately disinherited. Since then she has been building up a following in the New York clubs and on Youtube, while starting to attract the interest of record companies and official management. The little money she earns is added to by secret gifts from her grandmother, but otherwise she is on her own. Her powers quite extensive now, Alison still tries to keep them hidden from the world.

A NOTE ON NAME: The Eagle-eyed will notice that her name is spelled Blair, rather than Blaire. This is because I know so many Blairs (without the e) in RL that I would be always typing the wrong thing, so left the 'e' off. However, she will one day add that 'e' - an e to represent entertainment. Or something. She's the same person as the Blaire in the comics.

Powers

Sound Conversion - Source: Dazzler has the ability to convert external sound vibrations, including those beyond the range of normal human hearing, into light of varying degrees of intensity, strength, form, and use. The more sound she hears, the stronger the light power i.e if she hears enough sound, the snapping of a finger can be turned into light energy that can do substantial damage. (See Flaws)

Sound Conversion – Storage: In her natural form (i.e. without some kind of external battery), any stored converted power will dissipate in an hour if not recharged by more conversion. If she is left in silence for too long, she will eventually lose the ability to use her light powers. At normal big city sound levels, it takes six hours for her to fully charge without any expenditure of energy. Louder noises will decrease this time. If she used all her powers at a continual maximum, a full charge of her ‘battery’ would last around ten minutes if not replenished by sounds around her.

Sound Conversion – Sound Blast: Dazzler is able to unleash the vibrational energy she receives as an auditory blast. This can be loud enough to break human bones, destroy eardrums, shatter windows, and even damage structures. It is an omni-directional single, not constant, blast with Dazzler at the epicenter of the ‘explosion’. The sound wave can do damage up to a mile away. As long as she has stored power or exposed to sound, she can repeat these blasts.

Sound Conversion – Echolocation: Dazzler is able to use the sound she has stored as a rudimentary sonar. It has a range of about a kilometer. She can use it as either a single ‘ping’ or continual pulse – the latter requiring concentration and a continual use of energy.

Sound Conversion – Light (Direction Control): The photon power created from the converted vibrations can be controlled at will by Dazzler. If she chooses not to direct specifically, they will explode out from her in all directions.

Sound Conversion – Illumination: Dazzler can use this light to illuminate an area up to a square kilometer. The brighter the illumination, the greater the draw on her energy. Though she does not have to concentrate to maintain this light, it will continue to draw energy from her.

Sound Conversion – Show Lights: Dazzler can create colored shapes of various harmless intensity. These shapes can be moved, can strobe, and are the kind of things she uses in her act as showmanship. They are brief flashes, not lasting more than a few seconds or so, but also do not require concentration or a lot of energy.

Sound Conversion – Light Frequencies: The light Dazzler creates may not always be visible light. She has the ability to generate light on ultraviolet frequencies that can be used to destabilize solid objects – such as buildings or metal. Using frequencies outside of the visual spectrum are a greater drain on her energy than visible light. She can only maintain such use for a few seconds at a time.

Sound Conversion – Blinding Flash: Dazzler can create a single pulse of intense light that will blind any humans for minutes. It can have up to the power of several thousand watts.

Sound Conversion - Lasers: Dazzler can create laser beams, usually from her fingertips, that can pierce steel up to ten inches thick and have a range of around five hundred meters. Usually used as instantaneous bursts of energy (like a laser gun from the movies), she can maintain them as long as stored energy remains if she needs to cut shapes through objects for example. They can easily damage flesh and kill if aimed at the right place or be used like a laser pointer in a presentation.

Sound Conversion - Photon Blasts: Dazzler can generate concussive blasts that are less precise than her lasers, but no less powerful. She will use these to knock down opponents, or even, if she has the energy stored, to knock down buildings or hurl cars through the air. Though she can direct these blasts. they are more like a wave than a precise blow. Dazzler can change the width and height of these waves as required though not to anything smaller than herself.

Sound Conversion - Strobe and Dazzle: Dazzler can create hypnotic strobe lighting to distract. She is not a mesmerist and has not trained to be one, rather it is simply the pulsing of the lights that cause people to concentrate on them. The stronger willed the target, the easier it is for them to break free of the trance effect. Similarly, she is able to create numerous shapes of light that throw off the balance of those who see them. Both of these effects can last up to a minute before she must ‘recharge’ them or they dissipate.

Sound Conversion - Holograms: Dazzler can create color, three dimensional holograms of objects and even living creatures. These holograms can be moved to replicate life or activity. This last requires her full concentration. If immobile, they will dissipate after a minute. Any interaction with them will reveal their falsehood.

Sound Conversion - Shield: Dazzler can use the photon energy around her to protect herself. It is a high intensity shell around her whole body, powerful enough to instantaneously disintegrate bullets as they approach her. It can resist outright blows with the power of five tons or less. Though it may absorb some of the damage from higher strength blows, it will shatter and need to be reconstituted (if Dazzler is still alive after such a blow). The shell reaches out to about a foot from her body. Once created, it remains until it dissipates from damage or she dispels it.

Invulnerabilities: Dazzler is invulnerable to attacks based on light or sound. The latter having the effect of making her more powerful. Her defense against light attack does not apply when it is in the form of laser beams or other superfocused weaponry.

Superhuman Hearing: Dazzler has superhuman hearing that hears beyond the audible range of humans.

Skills

Singer: Dazzler is a singer of growing renown with a range of D3 to B5. She has had some formal training, but it is mostly natural. These also allows her to control her breathing better than the average person.

Dancer: Dazzler is a formally trained dancer who is especially skilled in modern, jazz and hip-hop. These skills allow her to have flexibility and athleticism beyond the average person.

Roller Skating: A beloved hobby of Dazzler, she is able to roller-skate gracefully, speedily, and knows all the tricks.

Skateboarding: Dazzler is also skilled with the use of the skateboard. She has the abilities of a very talented amateur.

Streetwise: With the estrangement from her father, Dazzler has had to learn how to live within her, very limited, means. Which places are cheap, where you can get free stuff, which streets to avoid, she knows how to survive.

Advantages

Semi-Famous: Dazzler is a singer who is rising in popularity. That can get her into a couple of places people normally wouldn’t.

Long Island Girl: A New York native, Dazzler has some local knowledge that could prove helpful.

Flaws

Sound Conversion - Source: The sound Dazzler hears must be external to her - for example, she cannot use the sound she makes herself.

Semi-Famous: Dazzler is a singer who is rising in popularity. This means she can often be under the glare of the paparazzi and her every move may be documented and analyzed. Very hard to maintain a secret identity in such situations.

Secret Mutant: Dazzler tries to keep her powers hidden from the world as much as she can. Though she may perform some tricks at concerts, they are usually put down to special effects. She certainly was not registered as a superpowered individual and her status as a mutant is unknown.

The Need for Sound: Dazzler needs vibrations to use her powers – even non-audible vibrations – so environments of complete silence or a vacuum will disable her unless she still has some power ‘stored’ within her.

Estranged Family: Dazzler’s father is a New York judge who is highly disapproving of Alison’s career choice. Though her grandmother is supportive, she is expected to survive on her own without any help from her family. Her mutant mother is not known to Alison.
